Difficult Designer / Brand Pronunciation

Oat for Haute I was taught, but always thought it was just wrong. I screw up alot on these names and words,
but I can live with it and do not mind being corrected, as long as it is in a nice way, not you're and idiot way.
But I can take a good ribbing from friends in these matters.

When I travel abroad, I 'm used to being called Mr. Cole-A-maan for simple Coleman. I always got a kick out of that, I would smile, and not correct them.Always reminded me of that song by Harry Belafonte.

I can't spell Demeulemeester, but I can say it. However, am I correct that it's said "Ahn" and not "Anne"???

Well first of I live in Holland not Belgium....but I live close to it so.....

And since I'm Dutch, I know how to pronounce Ann Demeulemeester...

Ann is said like Ahn.....and Demeulemeester, that'll be hard to explain but I'll give it a shot

De is pronounced like hmmmm.....the best thing I can come up with is the 'i' after saying the 'g' in girl and before saying the r....it's closer to the g then to the r....meu is said like ummmm...there really is nothing that sounds like it in English...it's kinda like the ö in Scandinavian languages, perhaps you know that...le is said the same like de....mees is said like the a in space and er is again like de....

The first part "balen" is said with more of a stress on the "len" than the "ba" So "balen" is said more quickly then how most people say it.


And for Rei Kawakubo (I had a japanese friend break it down) in case anyone wants to know it is said:

rray kawAH-ku-bo
The R is rolled like in spanish and the stress is not on the "ka" like most americans and western language speaking people would say it but instead the "ah". And the "kubo" part is said slightly faster than most people would say it.

its always a matter of phonetics and pronunciation scott,
that was while in Belgium i guess ?
i pronouce it Lan-vèn myself , the n in the end is
almost a 'silent' one , but its there to be pronounced

I usually pronounce it Lawn-vingt (like how twenty would be pronounced in french) but I dont know if its right

in general, i think pronounciation is a bit hard to describe in writing

I've heard the A pronounced both ways, I've also heard the I pronounced as an I and as an A........I guess it's almost like a preference, there isn't necessarily a wrong way to say it, just a different way to say it.

Well actually the eu in Demeulemeester is not pronounced like me or mu.....it's a combination of letters that is only used that way in the Dutch language and it is very very hard to explain...
