Difficult Designer / Brand Pronunciation

I'm confused about how Ungaro's last name is pronounced. I've heard it pronounced Oon-guh-ro, Oon-gah-ro and Un-gah-ro.......anyone know the true pronunciation?

I'm confused on how to pronounce Behnaz Sarafpour correctly..I don't think its said like it I say it.

The way I've heard it said is pretty much the way it's spelled.

I've always said "beh-nahz saraf-purr".
What about Hilfiger ..it's a pretty common word used (and worn! -eew-) everyday from many people. There's people who pronounce the "G" as a "y" (or "i") and there are people who do the "g" like in "Ugg".

I hate, hate hate when people pronounce Ralph's last name as Lau-ren with the little phony French accent.........he's a short Jewish boy from the Bronx who's real last name is Lifshiz, he aint French!!!!!

I suck at french, so I have a hard time pronouncing Lanvin

Lanvin= Lan-ven

 Oon-guh-ro, Oon-gah-ro and Un-gah-ro....... = Oon-gah-ro

My mag says Ghesquire is pronounced Ghes-koo-are...
thats so wrong :P

Im Australian.. not ur typical one with the annoying whiny accent.. and i cant say 'haute couture'.. i want to know how to say it the french way tho coz it sounds really good!! is it:

"ought.... ..... c - ch-er"

I did a biography on Ralph last year, presented it in front of the class... despite hearing me say Lauren about 100 times, she STILL pronounced it like that

i always seem to hear alot of American fashion media pronounce Véronique Branquinho's name without the accent. Often pronouncing it as VUR-onique. If I'm not mistaken, isn't the accented syllable pronounced like an 'i'?

Also,Lena,do you often find people mispronounce Sophia Kokosalaki's name? Sometimes I hear it just the way it looks,Co-Co-So-So-lah-kee,but then there are other times when people pronounce it Ca-Ca-So-lah-kee.

And last one. Rei kawakubo. It really annoys me when people mistaken one of the most visionary talents in fashion as a piece of bread!! Rye....yeah right!

Haute Couture is pronounced like this: pronounce the hau like the oa in oaktree and then just put a t behind....so you get oat....and couture, the ou is pronounced like the o in loser and the ure is pronounced ure in allure.....so you get coture.....

Oat Coture

 oh no mrDale, its not 'oat coture' at all honestly,
you need to pronounce couture ,
its an ooo not an o see?

as for haute, its really a bit like ought, but more sharp
like Ot or hOt really , its a very small word Haute, sharp & quick

couture is a bit more 'lazy' there is quite some rrr at the end
this thread is quite lots of fun for someone who speaks french/visits France often :ninja:

Yes I know...but the o in loser is pronounced like an oo, or am i wrong here?
And the h is never pronounced in haute that is for sure....I practically live in France since French speaking Belgium is only 100 km away from my town...it really is pronounced like oak....I think that Tim Blanks is pretty good at saying haute couture, for an English men that is :P

o gets pronounced as oo only when its been placed/posotioned between certain letters ; )

since you live in Belgium, i bet you really know how to pronounce Haute Couture MrDale

I speak French fluently (although not natively) and I can't pronounce Lanvin! I've never actually heard someone French say it, and I've always been unsure how hard I should pronounce the first 'n.'

not too hard

Not quite the high end brands listed above, but one that most people say wrong that I sell is POLECI. It's said "policy". Most say it PO-LEE-CHEE, or PAH-LE-KEY. Another one that I will never get is why people call Trina Turk "Tina Truck"
I can't spell Demeulemeester, but I can say it. However, am I correct that it's said "Ahn" and not "Anne"???
