Donatella Versace - Chief Brand Ambassador of Versace

I am not going to miss her as the "designer". She seems to be a nice woman and did a great job keeping Versace culturally relevant after Gianni's death but her creative choices were questionable most of the time. Versace is not just sex, t*ts and heels, Gianni's work between 1970s and 1990s offers much more than that.

Don't make me cry 😢 she went through a hell of a lot nobody in this industry has gone through what she's been through murder rumors sell of the business changes of bosses (Mafia -if you no you no) for almost 30 years about 40 years she kept her brother dream alive ! absolutely special Love you Donatella 🥰

I firmly believe she deserved a proper final show, one that captured the spirit of Spring 2018 with all her muses by her side for the finale, celebrating her legacy with applause. Carmen, Isabeli, Daria, Natasha, Raquel, Karolina and Gisele all there to honor her in this special moment.

She deserves all the glory. Her contribution to fashion and entertainment is unmatched. She may not be the most important designer but she left a mark on the industry. No matter what, she did good. She can be proud of herself.

Now she deserves a retrospective exhibition at a major museum AND a lifetime achievement award from the CFDA and BFC.

I looked at the past Versace collection comments and majority of them are a mix of 'god versace is totally dead' or 'this looks crazy cheap who's buying this' 'why is there a miu miu bag then a balenciaga bag' or 'maybe she needs to stop sending the same dress out' or 'the name versace doesn't even say high fashion anymore'.
This forum doesn't do positivity. Anything a normal person could comfortably wear to go about their day is a glorified Zara design. Anything extravagant, well, the designer might as well go flush themselves down the toilet because they'll never live up to the Old Masters. But God forbid someone references the old masters, because that's boring and derivative. But if they try something new, that's just out of touch navel gazing. There is no praise here.

It's not that simple actually...of course anyone in here has its own preference: someone likes artsy (the JWA stans), someone likes maximalism, some others like minimalism and Phoebe, however it's undeniable how Versace turned into a Michael Kors clone with baroque prints after the Capri acquisition.
Being a high fashion dedicated forum, it's kinda expected that most users (who are well educated or are part of the fashion pack) will stan the brands / designers that push the vision forward in terms of designs, techniques and artistic direction...you will hardly ever find someone praising Roberto Cavalli the designer or an Elie Saab collection, as they are very "conventional" designers / brands.
Being said that, Versace has never been part of the fashion conversation. After Gianni's death, the brand has sustained itself living on Gianni's legacy...and remember the brand was about to go bankrupcy in mid 2000's (discontinuing of Atelier Versace runway shows).

It really is, actually. One might expect to see *something* stanned, or at least appreciated, here, that's true. But in practice that's rarely the case, at least for current or relatively recent collections. It was a humorous observation about the forum's culture, not a defense of Donatella's Versace in particular.

Thank you. I did not know that Marco Zanini worked at Versace :)

You know, usually "the end of an era" happens when a designer dies.

How iconic is it when the end of your era comes with you looking awesome and partying to a Lady Gaga popsong that pays you tribute?

I fell in love with this woman when she showed years ago Gianni's room to Vogue. I found her adorable.

Donatella ❤️
