^ exactly, even though the collections aree less 'sl*tty' which i personally approve, she's totally losing the Versace client

In the end, it'll probably be losing the original Versace client to bring in a new client...It's all about what will keep the company afloat at this point...

Exactly...the people who cant handle it call it "sl*tty" ot "trashy", but the people who can love Versace.

I may be the only one but I have become disillusioned with Versace as of late. Fashion needs contrasts- we need Versace's color-drenched temptress just as much as we need Prada's globe-trotting female-nerd, or Nicholas Ghesquiere's edgy Parisian doll.

With Versace resorting to safe looks that are closer to the mainstream, a vital portion of fashion is being underrepresented. Who's going to champion sexuality now?

Thats a good point, Ive never thought about designers from that direction.

Well, Cavalli is the one who does this job out there. He definitely has his range of loyal clients and I don't think he'll change his line into a more mainstream, more elegant style.

I wonder which STARLETS donatella will be able to pull in for her VERSACE dinner tomorrow night??!

That previous comment about Cavalli being the "New Versace", it's not very true...Cavalli tries too hard to make everything look glamorous and sexy and ends up making everything look just plain old too rude to wear. Donatella is different, she rarely overdoes anything.

Versace will always have a hint of vulgarity no matter what they do and that's not a bad thing. Like they said, Armani dresses the wives while Versace dresses the mistresses...

I don't think vulgarity is any hard to handle these days, it's really just overexposed in public (unless you lived in the prude-ish USA) that it simply doesn't raise eyebrows anymore when a designer shows deep cleavage on the catwalk. I think no matter how sexy you want to look, you still want to have something in the back to reserve... Versace never really had a style that allowed for 'suggestions', it was always very straight-forward sexy and wealthy... people might be looking for something more subtle these days and Donatella can't have overseen it. I simply happen to believe she is not the person people are turning towards for clothes with subtlety.

you said it so well tricotine,
i would only substitute 'wealthy' with 'new money', thats my one single tiny objection :ninja:

I think Versace is moving in a new direction because the gain and profits were declining in recent years and that's another reason why they don't do a couture show any more. And now that they are changing it up they could gain new clients and more profits.

pardon me, i meant to say it's a very obvious display of wealth, which in itself is rather new-money-ish behaviour... so in that regard, let's just agree that we both agree on that point... :flower:
