Donatella Versace - Designer, Creative Director of Versace

^ You're welcome ^_^ And yes, there are gonna be fashion collections for both men and women starting from S/S 10.

^^Great!

It's interesting to see Kane's take on Versace. Ever since Donatella has taken him under her wing, I've been curious to see what Kane would do with Versace (because we all know, eventually he would be working at Versace), because I never really considered his aesthetic particularly Versace, but this is very promising. Combines Kane's quirkiness with Versace's glam. Excited to see more.

I know I cant wait. I was sooo bummed when Versus shut down, and it all happened so quickly. But I cant blame them, Versace was losing so much money they needed to focus all their time and energy to save it.
Im happy that now theyre much more stable and reviving Versus regardless of the recession.

Yeah I was thinking that too, those accessories are so Versace! Yet Kane was the one who designed them.

Sounds like the artist himself loved art and I sure didn't know he designed furniture. I'm one of the Versace curious.

Versace's Villa Contents To Be Auctioned In London

LONDON — The contents of late Gianni Versace's fabulous Italian villa will be sold in London next week, giving curious fans a chance to see a display of his artwork and furniture.

The London auction house Sotheby's has tried to re-create some of the rooms from the Villa Fontanelle with the neoclassical items Versace used to decorate them.

"This is the last opportunity to enter into Versace's world and buy something from a collection that is representative of his legacy," said Mario Tavella, a Sotheby's spokesman.

The 550 items on sale Wednesday are expected to fetch about 2 million pounds ($2.75 million).

Versace, shot dead in Miami in 1997, loved to entertain at Villa Fontanelle, a yellow 19th Century villa on the banks of scenic Lake Como. Among his weekend guests were Princess Diana, Madonna, Sting and Elton John.

He collected a number of paintings and statues along with antique furniture, bookcases, chandeliers, and many busts of Roman emperors. Sale highlights include life-size casts of Antonio Canova's Pugilists, which were arranged in Versace's bedroom, and a rare pair of Italian cherrywood breakfront bookcases by Karl Roos.

The sale will also include armchairs, wardrobes and other items designed by Versace, known for his attention to detail and extravagant taste.
Typical of a more expensive item in the auction catalog is a nearly 200-year old carved walnut couch inlaid with fruitwood expected to sell for more than 10,000 pounds ($13,750).

The prominent designer was killed outside his Miami home, one of several luxury properties he owned throughout the world. The contents of those houses were sold shortly after his death, but the Versace family held on to Villa Fontanelle for some years, giving it up for sale only last year, when it was purchased by a Russian businessman.

Versace's fashion empire was taken over by his sister Donatella and his brother Santo after his death.

A lot of Gianni's previous belongings have also been sold, some time back. Things like originals by Picasso and luxury furniture and one-of-kind antiques.
Thyve been selling his stuff for ages, especially during Versace's financial struggles (I think between 2001 and 2005), so this comes as no surprise really.

^^only this time it shouldnt be a matter of money, no? ... i mean, they just relaunched Versus... things should be going well :P
i'd love to see pics of his collection. Earlier this month it was Saint Laurents and now his!

Wow very impressive I have a few Versus pieces from 2000 the first designer thing I bought on my own when I was 14 I remember be so excited about it I actaully still have my Versus pieces in my closet. 20 stores is a lot for a short period of time I wonder if it will be an Asia/Europe expansion or if any US stores are planned. I dont like the new VJC stuff I see at Beverly Center Macys
I liked in more back in the day. Plus I feel with VJC they are trying to deny the past and they never actually write Versace Jeans Couture on anything just VJC lol. I hope Versace doesnt get into a multiline fiasco again like before so Now they have Gianni Versace,Versus,VJC and here is where im confused Versace Collection is that sold at the Versace Boutiques or No?? I see at saks an I saw some great pieces for summer.

I really like the bags. They're fun, particularly the small one with the giant clasps on the strap.

The shoes I'm not loving. Those huge crystals look kind of cheap, not that they don't on the bags as well, but they're just more appealing to me than the shoes are.

Just in case anyone was wondering, there's an article in Vogue about the launch and the one pair or sandal heels is 3,500 dollars.

Im really liking the jewels on the things, theyre very beautiful and not overdone.

All but the flat boots are overdone by my standards  I guess I just can't get past the giant crystals ... and I do have crystals in my shoe collection.

To me this stuff fits in with a loud trend I've been noticing (I think of it as "Moscow") that seems to be aimed at women who may not be that aware of the world and people around them & have a 'screw the recession' attitude ... :innocent:

^WHats wrong with that kinda of attitude, its kinda fresh to see that some labels arent willing to sacrifice style and quality. Id prefer it over what Gucci is doing :yuk:

I think these accessories are ten times better than the accessories for Versace Mainline. I find them more interesting and less tacky; even with those giant crystals! :innocent:

Donatella Versus Kane

02 March 2009, 04:22PM
FRIENDS in high places are useful, they say - and nowhere is this more true than in fashion. Scots design dynamo Christopher Kane has a friend indeed in Donatella Versace - and when she is in need he lends a hand. She's not in need exactly, but has enlisted Kane to cast his eye over the youthful side of the Versace business, Versus, designing a capsule collection of accessories for autumn/winter 2009-10.
"I am really thrilled to have been asked by Donatella Versace to design a capsule collection for Versus," Christopher Kane enthused yesterday as he unveiled the line. "My accessories are intended to embrace and revive the initial essence of Versus." It seems that an uncanny closeness to her late brother's vision inspired Donatella to elect Kane the Versus successor.
"A creative journey which from the very outset has prioritised and valued innovation, flair and unorthodox talent," said Gianni Versace on the launch of the Versus brand in 1989. "An energy and creativity focused on the future, totally at ease in the present, embracing every challenge and anticipating future expectations." Versus showed for the last time in 2004, following Gianni's death in 1997, before being reawakened by Christopher Kane this season.
"I am very happy about this collaboration with Christopher Kane," Donatella Versace revealed. "Christopher is a highly creative young designer and his work impressed me from the very beginning. His rock 'n' roll style is very powerful, glamorous and sensual - perfectly in tune with the mood of Versus - which was always intended for young people who want clothes that project a personal style that is constantly evolving."
Fun, intelligence and - most importantly - covetability, ensured that Kane's first Versace outing left every fashion editor and show-weary journo in awe. The accessories retail at between €700 and €2000 - and, with menswear and womenswear planned for 2010, our best advice is to get saving.

I'm talking about the attitude of the individual rather than the attitude of the label.

I really am not seeing labels sacrificing style and quality in response to the recession--not the ones I look at anyway. What I've observed is that they seem to be amping it up & seem to be trying for more special & more elaborate pieces. And the stores, some seem to be cutting their buys, and others seem to be appealing to the customer I mentioned above.

All the accessories are amazing and they really fit the rock-tough Versus attitude, the shoes looks so dangerous and vicious...and I like that!!
Can't wait to see the menswear runway show

LOVE the gladiator heels, and those flat boots. Pure sex, I want them.
I'm excited to see the shows for women and men. I wonder if it'll be the same bold, bright, rocker-ish aesthetic, or if they would "modern-ize" I guess you could say, because guessing from the newly released accessories, they really look like the glamorous, sleek and sexy Versace woman to me.

so much for "accessible"

Well I think since that was really just a capsule collection. The prices won't be that outrageous when the collections hit the stores. This seems like it was just to create a buzz and publicity for the brand.

Versace collection shoes don't even cost that much when they are fully bedazzled.

These could be a collectors item though, I'm assuming.??
