Donna Karan, Spring/summer 05

Some interesting stuff but no colour :( And I like colour.. The makeup looks nice though. Really fresh and simple.

the second lot is good but the first lot posted there are a few puffed out pieces that are abit difficult to swallow

donna karan dresses a strong (and i think working) woman...i would have preferred her emphasize her utterly sexy suits and leave some of that shape exploration to people like junya and stella who do it a little bit more legitimately...

i thought the palette stayed true to a new york woman, but i thought some of those bulbous shapes and cut out shoulders would not work on a sophisticated new york woman.

Bad collection, completely out of sync with the season.

The puffy jackets are so Wantanabe. The gathered waists and voluminous sleeves are lifted from Narciso Rodriguez.

Nothing really works: the drapings, the bland colors, the rigid suits... This spring calls for something feminine and breezy.

It's one of those collections, at least to me, that would work 100% on the right woman without too much effort. For some reason, DK has never struck me as a 'girly girl', there's something...hard edged about it, something a bit tricky and difficult...or maybe that's just a bunch of BS and the NYC collections are just disappointing all together. It's like none of the designers were happy this season so they push this girly feminine garbage with no kind of irony, no left of field sophistication, nothing, nothing, nothing. I'd much rather applaud for someone who worked so hard on their own stuff even if it were monstrous than these designers who constantly attempt to kowtow to Vogue magazine--not the buying public because they know they'll be influenced by the fashion rags anyway. Where's Patrik Rzepski when you need him?

I think some of it is sexy. Start getting used to bustiers and tube tops.

Or maybe both Donna and Nicolas are ripping off the same vintage source! No one really knows these days.

Nicolas wasn't ripping off vintage...his inspiration was an old Balenciaga collection from the 50s. Donna, on the other hand...

I liked it, some of the jackets and suits were nice, I liked the pallette with the silver and champagne with those few shocks of berry. Love that silver gown on Hana, but my favorite thing were the shoes and the jewelry.

My favorite shoes...

I  this necklace

I actually liked a lot of it  it may not be too original, but somehow the stiffness of the suits worked for me - although I can understand that stiff isn't exactly ideal for spring

this was one of my favourites

Is Donna still the chief designer? I'm assuming she has nothing to do with DKNY, but does she actually get into the trenches and still design, or something more on the lines of approving whatever designs are presented to her?

Yes.

Interesting accessories...

But this dress does absolutely nothing for the body...
