Jil Sander to Launch Lower-Priced Line
For spring 2011, Jil Sander will launch Jil Sander Navy, a line designed by Raf Simons but priced 40 percent lower than the main Jil Sander collection. Currently a cashmere Jil Sander coat is $3,995, while a cotton jersey dress is $695 on Net-a-Porter. A Jil Sander shirt could go for around $300, so prices for the Navy line ought to start in the hundred-something range.

Jil Sander Navy will be targeted toward a younger, more casual customer. Chief executive Alessandro Cremomesi, who was promoted from CFO in July, hopes it will broaden the label's client base. Navy will complement the runway collection and include T-shirts, shirts, dresses, trousers, skirts, jackets, and jeans, along with a few accessories and shoes. Expect lightweight jersey and knits with abstract prints. The line will hit Jil Sander stores and other spots that currently stock Jil Sander in January. Despite some signs of economic recovery, it's good to know that brands like Jil Sander, which fared okay in the downturn, are still branching into more affordable clothing.

The prices are actually going to be much higher that nymag supposes. Not that much lower than the main line actually.

If this is anything like Fred Perry, count me out!

i guess that +j line sells better than they hoped.

Yes, but how are they gonna cash on the success of +J if the pricepoints will be way higher than what Jil herself is designing at those radically low pricepoints for Uniqlo? The fabrics and the finishing on many of those pieces are quite outstanding for a fast fashion/designer collaboration and it definitely reaches to the same, fashion-concsious customer that mixes and matches designer pieces with low key essentials.

Less of a secondary line, the new label seems to be more of a casual extension of them main collection. I'm skeptical, it sounds like Jil Sander is trying to become more "understandable. And if you've seen Raf Simons' more "understandable" RAF line....it could be a monstrosity....

this navy line would get marketed to actual jil sander customers and not the fast fashion customer. while the +j line represents a godsend for the fast fashion customer, many wealthier customers still prefer secondary lines from higher end retailers than those more accessible offerings from the uniqlos, h+ms, zaras, and topshops of the world.

This is amazing, they probably needed something to get access to a younger group of customers and the Navy line is beyond clever for that.

I hope they'll also manufacture men's clothing.

Those are some really nice pieces! I'd like to know if they've done menswear aswell, would be interesting to see what it would look like.

hm i'm a little skeptical. like others said, it's pretty "raf" rather than "jil". i kind of like the outfit in the third pictures above though, the grey mesh looking dress
