Dries Van Noten Mens F/W 14.15 Paris

There's a lot of gorgeous pieces here.

HOWEVER.....

The problem is a lot of the styling and the colors in the beginning. The acid pinks and purples and yellows are truly hideous and terribly passé. And the furs and the athletic trainers are also such blatant street-style-bait I can hardly stand it. And then the streak of color in the hair is just....well....stupid.

However, if you subtract those things, and try to imagine the first half rendered in neutrals instead of hilighter colors, it's a lot better. I think the Renaissance inspired motorcycle and denim jackets are really quite beautiful and desirable and sexy, even. Same goes for the motorcycle pants. Some of the better men's quilted moto pants I've seen in a while. I'd love to wear a pair!

I even love the little, single pearl necklaces. It's very unexpected and surprisingly sexy accent - especially when it falls against bare flesh.

Oh God, no no no, this is terrible. Way too many references going on here. Those motorcycle trousers are especially hideous. It's like rugged sportswear for techno raves.

I love seeing color from Dries, he always knows how to make it work.

odd girl out, i hope he does incorporate elements of this mens into womens. its a more aggressive direction i crave from his work.

I quite like this, nice change from him. I love when designers go for bold colors for mens, and combined that with Dries' always awesome styling then you get something really fresh. It's a bit of early 90's interpretation of 70's.

Definitely.

I've always adored Dries' easy remixing of classical gentlemanly formalwear with street. But this, this trendy, Tumblr-street Dries is not so good... The tie-dyes, the oversized, military coats with those horribly cheap-looking cut-outs, the acid-colored fur accessories, and even more tie-dyes overshadow the really strong, understated, classic-Dreis pieces-- like the overcoats, jackets and suiting. Not a fan of the incredibly trendy and pedestrian, streetstyle fashion-victim look. And I see where you're coming from with the Bryanboy reference, Scott, but despite the bright furs here, Dries will always be so much more substantial in his styling than those fashion victims could ever muster.

now this is a collection that i wish was in all black. i don't see and feel the relevance of this at all with a very slim closet space value. i love some of the pants but not patched with all these hideous colors.
