Dries van Noten

finally the drop down changed after refreshed a few time, I've never had so much trouble ordering. Thanks for the size tip lucky, fortunately they had a size up from mine.

congrats on the shoes gg! I hope you post them when you get them.

I took a look at the S/S video on elle.com, and the collection has grown on me to the point of love!

I'm particularly fascinated with this outfit (style.com)

the colors and prints are really appealing to me here, they seem more subtle than the other prints. The print in the skirt and the print in the middle of the top are my two favorite prints he did for the season. I love the cut and shape of the top and the overall silhouette. I cannot wait to see what these look like in person, I think both the skirt and the top could work well paired with either khaki/army green or maybe midnight blue.

I really love these shoes (style.com)

I'm also really curious about these flat sandals (and I love the top too, but I don't know if I'd actually purchase that print combination ... the blue/yellow print is kind of unappealing to me for some reason)

those who went to the Barney's trunk show, do you know if Barney's ordered any of these items? Or did you notice any pieces using the prints in the first outfit?

hey tourist...if I remember correctly (which is always iffy), they did order the bottom 2 pieces that you posted. I don't remember seeing the exact cuts but I'm sure I did see the patterns on something silk. the thing is, it seemed that if you're petite some of these pieces were very overwhelming. they need to be mixed with basics or you risk looking like a cruise ship coordinator (not that there is anything wrong with that job...)

^ thanks for the info lucky! by overwhelming, do you mean in terms of the size of the prints? or the volumes? or both? hmm, maybe this will be a season of shoes ... and possibly a bag ...

kind of both, but I might be totally off base. it really depends on the cuts, the pants and dresses that barney's had were overwhelming on me, but I found some gorgeous tops that I loved. I think some of my opinion lays in the fact that I prefer prints on tops rather than bottoms. it will be curious to see how all of us interpret next season.

just thought i would share for anyone in london to check out selfridges.. new collection is in and im in love

leyla, what did you see that you liked? did you see any of the jewelry?

ooh thanks leyla! I think koh samui also carry dries and they are having a special sale preview day this friday for card holders....I won't be able to make it but hopefully stuff will go on sale there soon....

lucky,
i loved the kaki cargo-ish pants.
some plain lime colour cotton cardi
beautiful printed tops (didnt get a chance to look closer)
as they were just puttin them out i wanted to come back but didnt get a chance in the end :(
i also was very close to buying these natural leather chunky ankle boots. somehow i felt they were so me... again didnt get a chance to go back!!

thanks for the early report leyla! I can't believe the collections are already in .... what was the fabric for the khaki pants?

tourist,
it was some sort of satin/canvas -y fabric... i can be totally wrong but that is what i remember from touching them. loved them and they would go with any of their SS08 tops!!

I remember softgrey went for a beeline to them the minute she saw those on the rack. :flower:

^ good to know! I've been thinking about that ... it seems the best of the season has both tribal and safari elements, in addition to all the colors and patterns. I'm feeling like I'll want one of those patterned tops to wear with safari/cargo-ish pants (Dries or not). Or a patterned skirt to wear with drab khaki colored tops. We'll see how I feel once it all arrives over here, but I'm definitely getting excited!

there's another short but really nice video here:

I've also fallen in love with this dress (style.com)

luckyme - I've been thinking about what you said, how you have to be careful to avoid looking like a cruise director. It's funny, because although I don't love every print, I haven't been very worried about that cruise director, tropical holiday effect. But I think the reason is because I'm Asian ... so everything would tend to look more ethnic than vacation on me. But I could see how the same pieces could have a totally different effect on someone with different coloring/features.

yes, like me...pale as a cloud. B)
I really cant wait to see what you get. I remember seeing that dress. the beading is amazing, I mean really amazing, and heavy.

on another note, since Ill be in Paris in June, I will most def come back with bags of dries goodies. i already told my husband I dont care if we go to any other stores but that one is a must and I get a day to play.

^ you're going to Paris????? I'm so excited for you! The Paris Dries store is a dream ... it's worth it to see the decor alone. But you still must visit one of the Isabel Marant stores

Kind of unfortunately, my husband and I agreed to go on a strict budget the next year, to save up for his graduate studies ... I'll only be able to buy a few things for the whole season, so I'll have to think about each purchase really thoroughly. Although I might end up blowing my entire budget on Dries, I love it so much.

^^i think you should be warned that the dries beaded pieces are all astronomical....
like the emroidered skirts....
VERY pricey...

lucky-- you are so funny...
i didn't even remember those pants until you said that..:p
*why'd you have to remind me!!!...
:hardhead:...

...

^ I figured so much re: the beaded pieces. That's really too bad, they are so special. I think given that, I will keep my eye out for the same silk sleeveless tunic that lucky preordered, but in the white/black graphic floral print that I like. Geez, being on a budget is tough stuff! ;)

^ You can always blow most of it on one piece :p ;)

I saw a beaded Dries fall skirt at Barney's that was quite tempting ... it was a mustard print built up into 3D with same-color beads. Not even a color I like, and it got me ...
