Dries van Noten

k got it, I hope you are both still online. softgrey, I ordered the 38 which will most likely fit me. I am sure you and tourist are a size smaller than me. she talked about the white trouser also but I prefer the khaki color for me and they sound perfectly casual and just the type of pant I would get a lot of use out of. yes, the blouse sounds just like the deep colored floral, I tend to stay away from bright pink, I love the idea of a slouchy neck with a long short sleeve that has an freeness to it. so cool, that you cued me in, thanks so much... and that we are all on the same page, but no surprise!!!:heart:

I didn't think to ask what else they bought but with our Nordstrom's now carrying Dries I am looking forward to seeing what they have bought. but honestly, I had to have those khaki pants, such a staple and I didn't want to let them slip away. I find sometimes the earlier arrivals are actually my favorites anyway.

luckyme - the pants are definitely cute. I would have bought them actually if they had my size! It's exactly what I'm looking for for spring ... a loose pair of cropped pants with rolled hems. The top is so nice too, I'm waiting to see what other prints they get. I didn't try it on, but it looks a little cropped, which could be very cute with high waist pants (the Dries pants had a high-ish waist with 2 buckles in the front!). I can't wait to hear what you think of them!

i think the pants are great..
and almost strange as part of the collection...
almost like they are some random extra thing thrown in there....

but- i don't think i will ever buy pants anymore without trying them on...
i don't know what size i am...
i have 38's that are too big and 38's that are too small...
both vanessa bruno......

it just depends on the fabric and the fit...

*although- having just said that- i DID order a pair of pants from milan which i didn't try on...we'll see how that works out...:ninja:...

agreed, pants are a very difficult item to buy online but with a saks near me its not such a big deal to try these things out. not to mention Dries can be all over the place with sizing season to season.

have you actually seen the pants, I don't remember them. not even the top...it seems they're different pieces that are a bit more wearable from saks than barney's.

I am also really looking forward to the floral flip flops. :flower:

I didn't see the cargo style pants that you guys saw at Barneys, but did it seem random because of the style of the pants? Or something else?

The Saks customer seems more conservative than the Barneys customer ... it looks like they bought a lot of pieces in solid colors that could easily be paired with the printed items. I noticed a few pants, a couple of knits, and some jackets in solids.

tourist, I don't remember cargo style pants at barneys only cargo shorts. if they had a pant I would have been tried them on for sure.

agree with your assessment of the two different customers, maybe that's the problem I had with what barney's bought. it was ALL prints except for the shorts.

Purple booties look so cool!!! :woot:

Lucky, your pants sound just perfect, I am eagerly awaiting some visuals.

S/S is starting to trickle in at barney's too...I didn't look to closely, but it was definitely mostly printed stuff. The shapes look so lovely, I really hope they ordered some solids.

rollagasper...!!!!...:woot:...
LOVE THEM!!!...

please post pics with complete outfits when you start wearing them!

such a delicious colour!!!

:bounce:

and have you seen the patent orange and grey ones from this season?! I already posted how much I love those boots in another thread; i just cannot get over those shoes!:p

Love the purple booties! Mine are taking forever - they've been passed on to the US from canada last wed!!

Lucky, the pants sound great. I love a pair of really easy casual pants!

did you get your boots yet?

here are two pictures of the pant and the top I received the other day from San Fran...colors are super but the pants will be returned because pleats and my shape don't work well together. it's too bad they have great details on the waist, I just can't get past the pleats...also what do you think of the top, isn't it pretty? I love the blue, dark greens and the marigolds on it. this also ran very small in the shoulders, strangely so. if this was a stretchy tee I would have kept it in a second but the fact it is lined in two layers of silk makes it a difficult choice for late spring/summer, its quite a heavy piece based on what I expected, which is why it is in stores now I guess. I really love this top though, quite a bit, and it is my favorite print from this collection I have seen so far, it's moody.

not yet... not sure what the deal is.

the top is really beautiful lucky. Maybe take it to a tailor to get the lining removed?

lucky-
those pants are not that special imo...
the top is nice...
but im not a big fan of floral prints as a general rule...
maybe that is why i am not such a fan of this collection as a whole..

tourist...
the pants i was talking about are not the ones lucky posted...
and they looked sort of random imo because they look almost like cargo pants which nothing else in the collection does...

^totally agree, the pants were a just not what I expected and the top was a cool, moody print but it didn't wow me. for fairness sake, the top looks much better IRL but had a "heavy" feel to it unlike the white floral tunic piece I fell for. I think when you go with florals they should have an airieness to them, as if they flutter in the wind. does that make sense?

but I have a feeling the really good stuff is yet to come...

luckyme - aww, that's too bad the pieces didn't work out! i really like both items ... it was difficult to tell what the fit would be like for the pants when I tried them on, because they were too big for me ... but the color and fabric are gorgeous right? when the hem is rolled, they remind me of the pants from Fall 2005, which I always regret not getting. and too bad about the top not fitting well too! Dries is that way ... you really have to try things on to get it right. The print of the top is nice.

I'm really curious to see what these pants look like! To me, it seems like the collection has some safari elements, in which case cargo pants wouldn't be too far out there. But it could just be the difference in the buys of the two stores.

I don't think those Dries pants are necessary special but seem like a good basic (if you like pleated cropped pants, which I do ;)). But now that I'm trying to reduce my spending, it does beg the question of whether designer basics are really worth it ...

tourist, you make a lot of sense...I'm prone to getting basics either on yoox or on sale especially if they are designer. when it comes to Dries trousers though, I dont really consider them basics because usually he cuts differently than lets say jcrew...and the fabrics are much better quality. but truth be told the only dries trousers I own are the drawstring cargos from a couple of seasons ago. when it comes to Dries I buy mostly tops and dresses. the skirts and trousers tend to be a little "staid" for my taste, and by this I dont mean embellishment-wise just in the cuts.

when prices are this high, it's got to be a special piece.

That print really is lovely, luckyme...kind of gothic. I hope you will find a better piece!

My bf got me an adorable cropped Dries sweatshirt for Christmas...navy blue with a double zip and tab neckline. Super soft and comfy. I just love that he makes these casual, easy staple pieces. ^_^

I saw just a little part of the new collection at the Printemps as the corner is being moved and for now, I'm not as thrilled as I was for the F-W 07/08 collection.
Hopefully, within the next weeks, more interesting items will come up.

Luckyme, I saw your top and I actually like it.
I love the way it's draped and I would definetely see myself wearing it casually with wide-legged jeans or with Audrey Hepburn capris and a trench.

I bought a spring Dries dress that at the time I loved, but I think I need 2nd opinions because it was expensive (although livable). Sorry this is coming in multiple pictures, but it's basically a khaki/green, slightly more green than it appears in the pics, sheer silk sheath with silver, white, and clear beads that comes with a fabric belt. The lining is white with a band of grass green at the bottom. The shape is exactly like the runway dress I posted earlier, but I thought the solid color would have a longer lifespan in my closet. Should I keep it?

Perhaps I should post this is yay or nay instead, but I thought this thread was more directed.
