Dries van Noten

 lucky....
We have totally different hair, that's for sure. :p

With shoes, there is a lot of size variation from season to season--I own 36, 36.5, and 37. In general, winter shoes seem to run about a half size small and summer shoes are true to size.

The clothes, on the other hand, run consistently large. I'm normally a French 36 but Dries 36--especially in skirts--is at least a size too big for me. :( However, according to the lovely rep at the trunk show, this season is cut narrower than usual.

on that topic...

I know a lot of us here are on the petite side, so I'm curious to know how the sizing works for you guys? I would love to pull off some of the voluminous stuff that luckyme has (like that amazing knit :heart:) but I have so much trouble finding things that fit. And I'm not super skinny by any stretch of the imagination ....just very small framed.

I find the same as laika, winter shoes run 1/2 size smaller, I've got 37 and 37.5; and for summer I have from 36 to 37. so they can be all over the place depending on the style.

clothing wise, tops I am my usual french size, but I have very square shoulders so maybe thats the reason. dresses if they are a roomy cut I go down a size. funny but pants and skirts I don't own so I can't say.

I guess I can get away with the volume because I wear tall platforms for the most part.

So found two tops...

This looks like it might be from ss 05. It's quite lovely and would surely work with many things in both hot & cold weather. Fairly good deal, too. Not sure how deep the love is, though.

DVN - Ron Herman.jpg

Of course the favorite of the two is exorbitantly priced. I absolutely love it but is an $800 top necessary at the age of 18? No. Hopefully it's still present come sell time. Wishful thinking, no doubt.!

wiw, funny how they both have so much in common. the side ties, the frail fabric...great choices. wait, your first Dries piece should be special.

 Ahh the ties, I'm a sucker for ties/knotting of any sort. Definitely will wait a bit, lucky. It has to be awe-inducing. I'm hoping that something from the ss 04 collection will pop up on ebay. That was a sublime season for Dries.

So the quest continues....

^_^

oh my, this is a beautiful thread.

luckyme - your collection is beautiful. I always loved that sweater as well but never actually saw it in any stores. I saw on NM's website that Vince has a very similar sweater, but I know it will not compare at all.

wheneveriwakeup - I have those mary janes in choc. brown patent, and unlike softgrey, I really love them, even with the heel height. I like that color combo, it's so striking.

laika - I completely agree with the fit. I often feel much too small framed to carry a lot of his stuff off. I haven't bought anything from this season so far, everything looks huge on the hanger. Although a 36 skirt usually does fit me. Did you know that his things come in a 34!!

I've posted this before, but this skirt is my most recent Dries purchase, from a previous fall collection.

I'm way impressed with everyone's Dries collections. I don't have much, but this is only the third season that I've been buying his clothing.

I just really enjoy his work, and it may sound weird but he's so great for basics that fit well and are detailed just enough. Also, I only own one pair of shoes so I don't know if it's standard, but they came with an extra pair of shoelaces! So best.

And here's a lil' picture of me wearing the tie and shoes w/ a Balenciaga shirt and Miu Miu trousers at a work function in August.

Tourist10, I love your skirt!
You guys should come to Antwerp, we have sample sales a few times a year and a few vintage stores which stock past season DVN all year round...

tourist, both of those are amazing! the colors come to life. I remember you and your boyfriend went to the paris store last year...

bart, thanks for posting the mens line, we don't get a chance to see it much. the details are like little hidden jewels. love the grey and blue sweaters. those shoes are fabulous but the tie is my favorite, the knit on knit is what does it.

ispot, I'll be there next september if all goes well.

Tourist, can't really tell from the picture, but are your mary-janes beaded aswell? The heel actually looks higher than the bronze pair, I think.

Always nice to see a guy in Dries. The croc brogues are beautiful. :flower:

thanks for the nice comments, luckyme and iSpot!

iSpot - thanks for letting us know about the sample sales and vintage stores. I'd love to be able to get more Dries from previous seasons. I was in Paris earlier this year and really regret not taking a train to Antwerp

bart - thank you for posting the Dries menswear. I love the shoes. Although he doesn't own much either, my fiance is also a big fan. He really likes the fit and the details.

wheneveriwakeup - my mary janes aren't beaded, and I believe the heel height is the same as the one you posted (maybe around 2 inches?). I have another pair from the same collection that has a 3.5 inch heel, which I love as well. But I'm a total flats person, which is maybe why the lower heel still appeals to me.

Bart: congrats on the new Dries purchases...Im almost certain you'll fall in love w/ that wool piece: IMO, Dries excels when it comes to his fall line...

Speaking of fall, I found this piece on yoox, in brow & black (the one pictured is tan & purple), from FW06..Its a size L, so I just might purchase it, even though I wear a size M in his knitwear (Im thinking the extra size might make it extra cozy for those cold winter nights ahead)..
