Dries van Noten

^^it seems that leyla saw it at browns..
maybe they have it on the website?...

i don't know - i never look at that thing...:ermm:...

I'm not buying from browns at this point in time because of the weak dollar, hopefully I'll find it stateside...you really look beautiful in it... fantastic buy.

i know...
i guess i paid double the price in a way...
but it was still worth it to me because i haven't seen it here....
and i still think it was reasonable enough...

but at least i didn't pay overseas shipping....:woot:...
.......

I saw softgrey's black Dries top today at Saks in SF of all places. I ended up buying it, I couldn't resist (I hope softgrey doesn't mind!). It really is a great top, I love the way it drapes. They still have the top in a large, in case anyone is looking for it.

...
saks!

i don't think the NY Saks carries dries...

so-how much was it dear?...
you know i am dying to know...
:innocent:....

and you MUST post a pic..
:p

^ it was $180, which I wouldn't exactly call inexpensive, so I'm guessing you got it for less (good for you!). It seems like the Browns price, after shipping and customs, might come out to about the same or maybe less, in case anyone is still trying to justify the Browns price.

I'll take a picture when I wear it! I'm thinking about pairing it with my Dries ivory abstract floral skirt that I posted in this thread earlier. It seems so versatile.

actually, Saks and this other boutique, Cielo, are the only two stockists of Dries women's clothes in SF. Not even the new Barneys carries Dries. The buyer at this one boutique which carries men's Dries told me that Dries won't let them buy the women's line. I guess they try to be careful not to oversaturate the market, so that the stores that do carry Dries are successful with it.

yeah- i guess saks had the line furst...so barney's can't have it in SF

i was surprised to find it in both selfridges and liberty actually...
though- as i mentioned ...they did a good job of representing the collection differently in each store for their specific customers...

$180 seems like about the same price that i paid actually...
as i said elsewhere- they have clearly adjusted the prices of the higher end luxury items for the american market..
the prices wind up being about the same....
but thanks for confirming that tourist...
good to know my instincts and judgement are sound...

my junya dress wound up costing me about the same as if i bought it here as well...

it's the mid level contemporary and high street stores where you really feel the weak dollar...

Hm, speaking of prices as to whether things would be cheaper from overseas or the US, can anyone help me figure out how much I'd ultimately end up paying (likely) buying something from Browns? I'm in the US.

They're $305 GBP there, and they say that is inclusive of VAT? How does one calculate that?

Thanks. :)

I'm excited, I've been seeing the shoes I want pop up on other websites recently (but I have not yet heard of a standard MSRP nor have I seen it in the orange I want).

Anyone know when the fall line will likely go on sale, btw?

Thanks. :)

Misako - When ordering from Browns, they will deduct the VAT from your order. You will see the total deduction once you begin the checkout process. But don't forgot, the shipping company (most likely DHL) will send you a customs fee bill through the mail, which I think is actually higher than the VAT but don't know for sure ...

softgrey - really interesting observations. Last spring, I felt like the Dries items I bought in Paris came out cheaper than the ticket prices here, because of the VAT deduction. But of course, everything else (food, etc) was so very expensive. The year before in London, my fiance saw the embroidered Dries flats he had bought for me in the US, and the price was quite a bit less than what he had paid (he was truly mad about that!). Quite a difference the year or two has made ...

I'm meeting up with friends tonight and decided to wear my new tee. A bit of an homage to Dries outfit :innocent: Sorry you cannot see the knot and draping details ... one day I will learn how to take a proper picture

well-- i think it's no the exact same ammount...
but it's close enough....
even if it's $20-30 more expensive there...
you'd have to pay tax here...so it all works out to roughly the same amount...^_^...
not enough difference to get worked up about anyway..imo...

tourist-
you look great...!!
it's funny...
i never considered wearing it in a sort of 'dressed up' way like that...
it's so slouchy and casual to me...
that is part of why it's so great to see how someone else does it...
so much fun to see another person's perspective...
it can open up our minds...

thanks for sharing!...
:woot:...

i don't think there is any difference. The shirt on the browns website was 80 quid which works out to be like 170 USD or 180 USD including tax so it's all the same plus shipping.

tourist - they didn't deduct your VAT in person at the dries store did they? Because they definately do not do that in the UK.....I always find it the biggest hassle to be honest to get VAT back. The only time I've done it successfully was when I purchased something over a thousand pounds....other than that, it's been a total nightmare.

this is my experience with brownsfashion.com...when you check out they deduct the VAT which approx. 17% and then add $40USD for shipping. dhl will deliver and send you an invoice for duties which vary depending on their mood that day. also if you use a credit card keep in mind most of the time they have a surcharge of 3% for international fund exchange.

hope that helps...

tourist, that is mag..nif..icent, you are such a dries girl.

oh thank you, softgrey and luckyme :flower:

Meg
- at the Dries store as well as at Printemps, the sales people completely filled out all the paperwork for me. So at the airport, I just basically had to hand the paperwork to the VAT refund officer, and that was it. The refund appeared on my cc within about a month. It was really easy, actually ...

...
unfortunately- i almost missed my plane- so i didn;t have time to do the vat...
can i still send it in or something...?...
not so much for this item...
but that junya dress was a pretty penny..:innocent:...

yes, you can if you go to the airport customs counter.

i can't do that...
its' a $60 cab ride each way...:judge:...
that will negate the refund!!...
