Du Juan

Despite the fact that the leopard print dress by De La Renta was not so easy on the eye, I'm still glad she's back on the runways. :) Since I have Chinese channels, I happened to stop at a fashion program this weekend that, luckily, featured a special concerning Du juan and the clout she's gained overnight in the fashion industry. It was pretty interesting since DU juan as well as the Editor for Chinese Vogue were both interviewed concerning her success. I believe one question directed to the Vogue Editor was why Du juan has had more than one cover for Chinese Vogue considering how many other models there are in China, and her reply was even though du juan may not be the most unique face in the Chinese Fashion industry, she carried an air of grace, a diligent attitude, and had the ability to give a variety of poses made her a favorite for China Vogue. One thing that I found pretty admirable that Du juan mentioned in her segment of the show was when asked what was the hardest experience that she's had in the fashion industry, she made mention of one of her first shoots across seas in New York where she was terribly sick and had a fan blowing at her on full blast, but that she still kept on trying to give her best at providing the most ideal poses for the photographer as well as people on the set without them realizing that she was ill, and she worked so hard to the point that towards the end of the shoot, she just fell down on the ground because she became so light-headed. I was rather surprised and awed by her diligent work ethic, and in regards to the comments mentioned awhile ago of her seeming arrogant; Du juan's persona on tv was quite the contrary, I'm sure things that Du juan said were simply taken out of context or purposely slandered by some jealous asian girl who simply can't appreciate a rarity like an porcelain Asian beauty in the fashion industry.

As I've read in an interview, she said modeling is no doubt a hard job, but if compared to ballet dancing, which she'd been doing for 9 years, then it isn't that hard at all.
IMHO, Du Juan is a tough girl, a girl that might look very quiet and gentle, while is incredibly strong inside.

I see angel222's point, in this industry, you need to be "presense", or even loud, just that ppl don't quickly forget your face. But I think it's Juan's personality being some kind of low profile. I appreciate her beauty, her work and her driven attitude, plus, I'd like her to keep being herself.:)

Oh and thnx everyone for the pix posted!!
That Oscar Dela Renta's leopard dress doesn't look good, the other one is much better.(anyone else can't get over how divine Juan was in the red dress last season?)

You made a very good point! I have never got any impression that Du Juan would ever be arrogant. She is always so mild, sweet and soft-spoken. You know what, there are lots of Hongkong guys and their media who really despise people from mainland, and can't deal with people like Du Juan's international success in a proper way, so they try their best to cook up all those nagative stories. If you read Hongkong newspapers regularly, you will understand what I am saying. Zhang Ziyi is a perfect example. You can't believe how nasty those Hongkong media are when they do any coverage on her. It's truely disturbing!

Seriously if you believe those craps, you got to think about your brain. By the way, this thread is dedicated to Du Juan and for people who love her to enjoy, if someone really hates her that much, why not keeping a distance, or you can start a new thread like "Du Juan sucks!" and say whatever negative things about her as you wish over there. That just makes life easier for everybody.

I do agree Du Juan is not versatile enough, and I always think she looks genuinly good only in those elegant and minimalistic looks, that might be also the reason why she rarely does Couture shows in Paris. But then what?! She has been walking down the runway for almost every major European and American fashion house, and it looks like she got a good season again this time. She is undoubtedly one of the top models right now, and she is the very first Chinese model who made it like this so far. To the people who love her, that's enough.

YOU ARE SO KARMA-ED!

And about the bold part, no offence to the very few(almost none) HongKong media that has some sense, it's absolutely true. But the worse thing is how mainland China's media just LOVE to copy those sh*ts and think it's cool.
(okay i'll stop here, otherwise this thread would be taken too far, which is unnecessary at all)

Excellent point(s), yellofenix. And it was definitely something that needed to be said.

Some people take what they read in the tabloids to heart. Then there are those who take another poster's mean-spirited opinions of a tabloid, that was taken out of context, and elevate it to a level where they can take liberties in condemning/pass judgements the lives of others. And the worst part about it is the ugly underlying motivation.

^Maybe they prefer her lack of ferocity...it's a refreshing change from the other girls, don't you think? :flower:

I think the others girls aren't ferocious such as the Russians, Americans, or Europeans, in fact after a while they all look alike. The only way an Asian model with the right physical looks can rise even higher is through the personality in photos and steely and superior catwalk skills and without them they're just a token top model who's there to meet a race quota.

^Well apparently, Du has achieved her status without necessarily "needing" such qualities. How much higher does she need to go, really?

The modeling world isn't stringent season after season -- it has fads and preferences, and if Du fits the bill for now, then what's the point of bringing her down when she's already high above the rest? If she is a "token top model," then let her be one and let people love her. Even if some don't support her, the Asian models who can take her place are still going to be considered "token top models," anyway. It doesn't matter if it's Mo, Sonny, or anyone else. The bottomline is: they weren't selected by the industry, and whether that's a factor of luck or preference, that's something we cannot change no matter what we say on a forum.

You know what the problem is? Du Juan is absolutely stunning, but she doesn't jump out at me like other models. Compare to the other asian models I can tell you who Du Juan is but have not seen enough of the other models to tell them apart yet. That is the same thing for some other asian models as well, they don't jump out as much. They are tall, beautiful, and have this amazing porcelain complexion, but only few of them jump out and grab my attention. Compare to the models of other ethnicities, they are so soft and seem quite ladylike and quiet. Like Brazilian, and Eastern European models, they have this prescence about them. They command attention. Or could it be a silent storm that is brewing, because every major agency is signing these beautiful, geisha like models. I don't know, I'm just talking out loud. Is it just me?:innocent:
