She’s appeared in a multitude of high-profile publications both in Australia and overseas, now Elyse Taylor can add the coveted title of David Jones Youth Ambassador to her long-list of modelling achievements. The New-York based beauty is currently back home for the highly-anticipated David Jones Summer d’Azur 2007 show. Lead by David Jones Ambassador,
Megan Gale, Elyse Taylor worked the runway alongside fellow Big Apple babes, Catherine McNeil, Nicole Trunfio, Kristy Hinze and Cheyenne Tozzi, showcasing the latest looks from some of the country’s most celebrated designers.
Vogue spent five minutes chatting to the in-demand Aussie model and quizzed her with these questions.
Who, what or where inspires you?
My mother – she’s such a hard working woman. She gives me strength when I have to work 16-hour days.
How do you feel about being the David Jones Youth Ambassador for 2007?
I’m really excited. David Jones is something I’ve grown up with so it’s an honor to be able to come home and be involved with their existing and new Australian designers.
What was it like shooting around the French Riviera for the David Jones summer fashion catalogue?
Well I was lucky I had a really amazing crew, so although we were working all day, it still kind of felt like a holiday. Sometimes when you are working you are able to go to amazing locations that you wouldn’t be able see as a tourist so I was really fortunate. I also got to wear so many great Australian designers – I already know what I’ll be buying for summer!
Having lived in the Big Apple for two years now, what do you miss the most about Sydney?
Apart from my family and friends, I miss the Australian lifestyle. New York is such a workaholic city it’s hard to find the time to relax.
What is your daily make-up and beauty routine?
I try to wear as little make-up as possible when I’m not working. But I do try to look after my skin. I use a Dermalogica cleanser twice a day and moisturise with products from Jurlique.
Which beauty products can you not leave home without?
Napoleon Perdis lip glosses – there is one for every occasion!
When you have the opportunity to have a break from day-to-day schedule what would your fantasy getaway entail?
My boyfriend has a house on the beach up the coast at Hawksnest near Port Stephens so I try to get up there whenever I can.
Visiting, holiday or residing, tell us your favourite hot spots around town.
I usually stay in Bondi so I always have breakfast and coffees at Green’s Cafe or the organic shop on Gould Street. For dinner I like to go to Jimmy Liks and after-hours I’m usually at Soho on Saturdays.
Which celebrity, designer or model do you most admire and why?
I love Marc Jacobs – especially the shoes and bags!
Travelling can take its toll – tell us your secret to arriving in tip-top shape?
Sleeping while I fly. It’s essential to get as much rest as I can because I usually have to get to work as soon as I land.
Your secret food indulgence?
Hamburgers from Hurricanes in Bondi.
Which three people would be at the top of your dinner party list and why?
My boyfriend and two of my best friends, because I can’t really cook so the less people to laugh at me the better.
