. Her casting was confirmed by Director Peter Jackson on his official facebook page-Evangeline Lilly will be playing a new character—the Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Her name means 'daughter of Mirkwood' and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas.) What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life.
But it is kind of wierd considering her ex Dom was in LOTR and is very good friends with Peter Jackson, Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood

I'm a huge LOTR and Lost fan... So it will be kind of like these two worlds are coming together
(especially because I've only ever seen Evi playing Kate), and I don't really know how this whole thing is going to sink in for me

You know what I find awesome? Evi was actually a huge LOTR fan before she was cast in LOST, she said so herself a few times. She must have been so excited![]()

that's adorable
) especially if she's an important character like you say.
. I should probably give it another go considering Evangeline is now going to be in the Hobbit.

Actress Evangeline Lilly failed to recognize her future boyfriend Dominic Monaghan at the auditions for TV series Lost, despite being a "die-hard Lord of the Rings fan".
Lilly only realized the British actor was one of her favorite hobbits in the JRR Tolkien saga when she heard him talking authoritatively about the movie.
She says, "I remember my first audition in LA and I was sitting in a room with him. I'm a die-hard Lord Of The Rings fan, but I had no idea who he was.
No idea, I saw him and thought, 'Huh, that guys is kind of familiar. That's really odd.'
"An hour later, I was still waiting to go in, because that's the way those auditions are, and somebody made a comment about Lord Of The Rings. And he started talking like he knew all about it.
"So, I was thinking, 'Who are you?' And all of a sudden it clued in, oh my goodness, you were Merry in Lord Of The Rings!"
Lilly, who turns 28 on August 3, says she has wanted to come to New Zealand ever since she was taught by a Kiwi school teacher as a 14-year-old.
“He went home for Christmas, brought back a slideshow, told us all about his country. I fell in love. I swore on that day that I would move here and raise my kids in New Zealand.”
