Eyeshadow Bases & Primers

ambidextrous said:
there's a brand called Artdeco in Austria and Germany, they produce a good eyeshadow base

I second that! This base is great! My Eyeshadow stays in place all day and night!

I ALWAYS use a base for my eyeshadow, as i hate it wen it goes into the creases it annoys me, so i use a thick concealer and blend it on with my fingers. At the mo im using maybelline dream matte mousee foundation, as its not liquified and its brill! quite cheap too!

I always use MAC paint in Bare Canvas as my eyeshadow base. HTH!

MAC paints, like others say...
the only think is you gotta basically purchase a paint that matches/compliments the color or shadow you will be wearing.

Suprisingly my favorite eyeshadow base if from NYC. It was 1.50 at Target and nothing else has worked better.

three best ones:
Urban Decay Primer Portion $14
MAC $16 ish
Wet N Wild mega eyes cream eyeshadow (those tiny tubes) $2

You choose.

BUT

I use foundation OR cream eyeshadows in the same color family as the e/s I am going to apply on top. It works very well, AND a base helps the color to show off better and last longer FOR SURE.

urban decay Primer Potion H=A=N=D D=O=W=N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm reviving this thread in the hopes that someone can help me find a great primer. My lids get oily throughout the day so I need something with staying power. Thanks :flower:

lol I'll just repeat one that is aready mentioned - urban decay primer potion.

Hands down Urban Decay Primer Potion. I've tried MAC and Benefit. They have nothing on Primer Potion.

I have really oily lids and I find the my eyeshadow slides off only after about an hour. I've tried Urban Decay's Primer Potion which gets really great reviews but it did not help me at all! I was so disappointed. I felt like such a freak because I was the only one it wasn't working for.

I see that Sephora now has Too Faced "Shadow Insurance" which is supposed to be great. I just ordered it and will report back how it is.

The Urban Decay primer is great. But I usually just use my concealer (Mac cream concealer in the pot) dusted with a bit of loose powder. My eyeshadow does not budge at all with that combo. I've fallen asleep (and forgotten to wash my makeup off) and my eye makeup was still in tact the next morning.

I just got a bottle of UDPP and while it made my eyeshadow creaseless all day, it didnt make my eyeshadow color pop like MAC's shadesticks do. I will use UDPP for my more toned down days.

i actually really dont like the MAC stuff.. i have it and it makes my eyeshadow crease after like 1 hour.. maybe its just me tho!

I agree with Urban Decay Primer Potion. I swear I have the worst eyelids ever for things to stay on but this does it.

I've used many but my favourites are Benefit's f.y.eye and the MAC paints of course!

I bought the UD Primer Potion yesterday so I'll give it a try today! Thanks so much for everyone's help

UPDATE: My eye shadow has stayed on all day! My lids aren't oily at all and my shadow hasn't creased. Thanks everyone for the recommendation!!

It is not technically a primer, but I really like Bobbi Brown's cream eye shadow used as one. The "sand dollar" shade is pretty close to my skin tone (a slightly shimmery beige -obviously this won't work for everyone, but there is a decent range of shades) and it really helps powder shadow stick. It is great stuff, and one pot lasts forever.
