do you think we'll be seeing more of this stuff?..what do you call them? headbands?:D

..cause i really like them:innocent:

me too, I'll try to make myself one

i'm very curious to see if any of these are true once we get to the women's collections...

but the more mature customer will rediscover retro elegance that is late Fifties and early Sixties

^This scares me

No more pretty!!! No more ladylike!!! please let designers bring back SOME sexuality...fashion is too boring when there's only one thing going on. I'd like to see some classy sex appeal work it's way into fashion, meaning that it's pleasing to the eye but still leaves a lot for the imagination to play with. I'd like to see it as an option, not that everyone jumps on that, but this sweet, pretty, vintage crap is wearin thin (although the mention of the Thirties sounds nice).....Anyone get me or am I sounding crazy?

I do like what's being predicted for jewelry though, I'm so over big antique looking pieces in a million different colors pinned everywhere (a la Prada:innocent: ) I want to see clean line jewelry in beautiful metals, minimal stones and sleek shapes.

spike...i think that late 50's early 60's kind of elegance is sexy and i think that's what they are talking about...at least that's how i interpret it...
a more quiet...not so in your face sex appeal...more elegant than flashy...

i'm thinking christian dior's new look...and audrey hepburn and grace kelly...

Hi, seriously in LOVE with the lipcolor there, does anyone know any brand that has a color like htat n please give me the name/number of the color too thx...

i am Asian and I have fairly pale skin and I am just obsessed with finding a magenta lipstick that would really stand out and have that great constrast against white skin and I wear black tops alot n have really black hair.

Btw, that headband is a no for me...

OOOH softgrey I hope ur right I wish the Grace Kelly look is bad! I love her elegance

Thanks for posting that Softgrey...my wwd password isnt working these days :(
I think it sounds good...an overdue return to well-cut well tailored feminine clothes...subtle...less obvious...more skill...a la Rucci. Long live Ralph!

I think this is natural and to be expected.Especially with the state off the world the gucci & versace show off tacky sex look is not going to fit.

Retro though, no no no no no please! Be CREATIVE

you're welcome marrimoda...this is the image that went with the article...
it's about a strong silhouette and body conscious clothes rather body-hugging...this is something that has been in the works for several seasons now...little by little... :flower:

very clean line and very elegant...superr chic...
you can see how the strong, bold accessories would look great with these kinds of looks...like a bold silver brooch or a gorgeous scarf...

When they mentioned that I was thinking the kind of sweet, flirty innocent 50's and 60's that was big back in s/s 03....didn't like that much.

But in general I'm just sick of the decade-hopping. I want something modern, of today or at least if you're going to reference a time period, update it.

i realize that that is what you thought of...which is why i posted the picture...i thought it illustrated the idea better...this way we are all thinking of the same thing...

and i agree spike...let's hope that they do update it...

Divining Fall's Fashions
By Holly Haber

“This will be a Geoffrey Beene/Ralph Rucci kind of moment,” said Wolfe.

As creative director of the Doneger Group forecasting service, David Wolfe studies worldwide style shifts and predicts how they will play in the U.S.
For fall, Wolfe predicts glamour, vulgarity and sexuality will start to fade,

D.W.: I think it means what I’m calling “deluxe minimalism,” because we still want to look and feel like we are being cocooned by luxury, but we want to feel luxurious instead of showing off our luxury to other people. That is what lots of Europeans are talking about. That is where they are heading, and we will end up following.**
We love eye candy, so there will still be plenty of color, but it will be expansive and subtle, with unusual combinations. Color will drive the business but not in such a heavy-handed way. The big things will be luxury fabrics with surface interest — not so much applied embellishment, but furry or hairy or sparkly in some way, including an enormous amount of patterning, damask, tapestry and brocade.
The silhouette will calm down a lot. It’s not going to be as body flaunting. It is a natural fashion pendulum swing, but this also reflects the fact that the industry is starting to pay attention to the [Baby] Boomer-plus customer with a lot of money who doesn’t have a 14-year-old body she wants to expose.
I don’t think the grown-up fashion consumer any longer wants to emulate the young. A discernable generation gap is opening. There is not so much cross-pollination between junior and misses’ and designer as there has been.
We will still be under the thrall of retro. Young people will still dress in a thrift-shop, rag-bag luxurious way, but the more mature customer will rediscover retro elegance that is late Fifties and early Sixties without that camp [period] makeup, hair and accessories…We are seeing a love of Victoriana and the Thirties with “The Aviator”; the clothes that Kate Beckinsale and Cate Blanchett wear in that film are so beautiful.

excerpt from wwd... ^_^

Can someone please blow this up really big and plaster it to billboards in time square, downtown la, rodeo drive, sunset, and everywhere else so people can read this!!! I couldn't agree more!!!!!

i completely agree. i have always been a fan of the 50's and 60's.

i figured that the style would revert back to the 50s and 60s anyway just because lately the designers have been making the clothes with so much less material that there was no place else they could've explored without making it so that people weren't walking around naked.

 THATS HOT!

yes this is the aesthetic I am naturally inclined toward.
It can be combined with sophiscated artisan jewelry or other pieces like you said Softgrey...like refined artistic belts, I'm visualizing gorgeous leather belts that make a statement...boots, bags of the like. But simple because this is not a look of piled on excess. one statement at a time. love it.

 ...that's funny...
well...i think it's about time that 50-60 year old women stopped trying to dress like their teenage daughters
and for those of us in the 30-50 bracket...there aren't many options...who wants to walk around with your *** hanging out of a pair of low rise jeans?!?!...it's hard to maintain your dignity while hiking up your low rise pants...

i find that i buy less and less from the younger, trendier brands ...it would be so great to have more options...

I often wonder if that's OK. I love the more quirky look, but I sometimes wonder when will someone point and snicker at me becase I've become the middle aged woman with the weird shoes and funky hair that is oh... just dangling on to her youth by the hair of something or another's chinny chin chin. Granted, if youth is a state of mind, doesn't that come out in your attire? Sorry to go so off topic.

Hi! I'm new here.
Anyways, I started reading your posts and I totally like hearing everyone's opinions here.
"well...i think it's about time that 50-60 year old women stopped trying to dress like their teenage daughters" Softgrey I couldn't agree more! I live in Southern California and of course I see this all the time, especially with the lowrises.
The one thing I haven't seen in the recent trends is the outlet for people to really express themselves, except for the printed T-Shirts. Back in the late 80's and 90's it seemed like there was versatility, although some of the retro items do a little bit it just doens't stretch into personal creativity. Lately it's about sloppy sluttiness, with the trucker hat, tight jeans with uggs gear.
I see people trying to express themselves at the expense of recycled clothing that have had their day.
I thought it was fun to see what they came up with, people everywhere are not the same. I'm totally a flowered top with jeans and Diesel sneaker kind of gal but I can admit that I liked seeing gorgeous flawless girls that can pull of dog chains and black nail polish.
