I bought some really ugly flip-flops this summer...from the Gap. In my defense: my other shoes were killing my feet and $2-3 was pretty much all I could afford for summer flats at that time (especially a pair that would most likely get ruined by art supplies). 
I'm going to paint them, though, which I think may redeem them slightly. The shape isn't bad, just the color. They're some sort of plastic material, so I think that acrylics might stick.
I hope that it works. If not...well, fall's almost here anyway and I'm only out a couple of dollars... 
edit: I bought these in turquoise. See what I mean about the ugliness? Especially because they are translucent and rocks, etc get caught in the star things and show through. Ew. Well, they cost what they're worth I guess.
