one wonders will new york fashion retreat into super-safe dreg in response to this economic morass. last season did pretty well with marc, proenza, and rodarte blowing our minds. i wonder if the designers -- dogged by still suffering sales and further budget constraints -- will have the ability to turn out something to dazzle us again.

i'm most curious about the second tier brands like band of outsiders and rag and bone and gilded age and obedient sons and shipley & halmos. if they -- as of a couple of years ago -- represented the future of new york, one wonders if they'll do anything to hold our attention.
