The fashion designer usually presents his new collections at Manhattan's Pier 94, but for the upcoming season he's switching things up. During the event next month he will showcase his Fall/Winter 14 line at the Duggal Greenhouse at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

"We found this incredible space, and it corresponds very well to this season's creative concept," he explained to WWD via email.

As well as changing the location, Alexander is also moving to a new time slot. He usually shows on the Saturday at 5pm, but this time around his pieces will go down the runway at 8.30pm. The designer is good friends with Joseph Altuzarra, who was fine with swapping times with him.

"We moved our show to the end of the day, to ease the flow of the schedule," a spokesman for Alexander explained.

The move into Brooklyn is being seen as a brave one as it is not an area usually synonymous with fashion shows. It's possible that Alexander's decision could encourage more designers to branch out, although that might make scheduling even more difficult for those attending the event.

The upcoming New York Fashion Week has been the subject of much speculation, with some major names choosing not to show at the iconic Lincoln Center tents this time around. Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors and Vera Wang are switching things up, with their decisions coming hot on the heels of much criticism about the US leg of shows. Many believe they have become too crowded and commercial of late, with the buyers and magazine editors who really need to see the lines unable to get a proper look due to the hordes of other people attending.

Style.com has learned that Rachel Zoe has postponed her Fall ’14 presentation, and will not show during New York fashion week. Why the cancellation, you ask? We were told that Zoe, who gave birth to her second son Kaius Jagger last month, “is not going to be able to travel this season.” The details remain vague at this point.
