Fashionable Katrina refugees?

Since when was an LV bag an 'essential'? I'm positively disgusted by the greed of these people:angry:

So I told my husband about this. His response? Well, I hope they bought a leather bag so they can eat it when they're starving. :woot:

this is really sad to read. but as with anything there will be the bad mixed in. it's sad because these people (who i am hoping are few) make the ones who are using the card for need things look bad. it still won't stop me from donating whatever i can, because i know there are truly needy people down there.

as to the luxtury brands who are accepting it, well i think to call it digusting after you have accepted the card for payment is odd, but that is me. :innocent:

there's always going to be someone stupid like that, it's just annoying that negative stories get more press than positive

you know.... what frustrates me about this is that my family is one of the ones that lost everything and the $2000 FEMA put in my mom's bank account is going towards clothes for my sister (she has some shorts, a pair of jeans, and some shirts), mom (same situation), and dad... along with food and other items. For someone to use that card at Louis Vuitton makes me furious! Yes we frequent "luxury stores" but my mother or father would never... urgh and some of the people here in mississippi can't get the 2000 because of people like those in the article......

thanks for posting, southerncutie! all of us here have been hoping that our fashionspot members from that area are safe and sound and well taken care of. :flower:

do you know if FEMA or anyone is doing anything to regulate the sales used with the money? do you have to claim anything or show any receipts, or are they giving you the money and allowing you to use your best judgement how its spent? i'm just wondering if those people who are using the donations on sh*tty handbags are going to face repercussions at some point for their irresponsibility and negligence.

I would be so ashamed of myself handing over one of those debit cards at the LV counter!

offtopic: toohipforbrroklyn your avatar is scary :ninja:

this article was in the new york post which flirts with being a newspaper when in fact its nothing more than a tabloid filled with stories about celebs, car crashes and local sex scandals.....to take it seriously is ridiculous...im sure there are some people who have used it for the purpose of buying louis vuitton and whatnot (which, frankly, is their prerogative...if they qualified to get the aid and wanted a bag, let em have it...i dont see how its diff from the hundreds of people who have been in designer stores since the tragedy and havent contributed $ to relief efforts)....also, im sure its not more than a few....furthermore, the fact that the new york post put it in its newspaper does fall in line with its political leanings...its conservative and they need a way to make government handouts look like a bad idea...they want people to think that see? giving people govt handouts only leads to money getting into the hands of thugs and lowlifes

america doesn't have a very good role model, so i'm not surprised that they have stooped to this level.

Exactly - I wouldn't say the people using the cards on these items have a good frame of reference...

and I was just raising a point, I never said I agreed with it.

well, it s their card after all. and if they feel they don t need to necessary items like food then they can do whatever they want with it. but am sure they ll regret it when they re starving and all they have is a louis that they can t eat.

i feel quite sorry for these people i mean the people that get these cards are the pretty poor people (right?) and they've probably never had anything like that in there lives and if someone gives them a card with $2000 on it they're going to want to buy something like that i just feels that its soo sad
