Of all the books you've ever read - who are your favourite character(s)?

I love both Scarlett and Rhett from Gone with the Wind - they're just so interesting and full of life.

And also Bridget Jones because she's so funny. There are thousands more so I'll post them when I think of them!

One that really pops up to mind has to be the obvious Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. But I really enjoyed Holden Caulfield character in The Catcher in the Rye.

I usually look at the overall theme of the novel and not usually the characters though- unless it's a light read.

I have always loved Ellie Linton from John Marsden's 'Tomorrow, When The War Began' !!!

Lestat from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles - he's so bratty and conceited, i love him.
Bridget Jones
the main character in Nick Hornby's High Fidelity, i don't remember his name right now

I have always loved Hercule Poirot - the detective in many of Agatha Christie's books

holden caufield gets my vote, too. i also love:

gunner myrdal from the white boy shuffle
kerewin holmes from the bone people
sethe from beloved
jane eyre
antoinette cosway from wide sargasso sea (interestingly connected to the above)
shug avery from the color purple
janie from their eyes were watching god
huck finn
the evil mrs danvers from Rebecca

There are books I've read so many times that I feel like the characters are old friends! Here are a few:
Jo March from Little Women
Anne from the Anne of Green Gables series
Scarlett O'hara from Gone With the Wind
Jane Eyre from Jane Eyre
Mrs Danvers from Rebecca (who doesn't love evil and crazy?)
Francie from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

love your choices lost girl! I've read all of those books and loved them all! i forgot Anne (spelled with an e) from anne of green gables...great choice!

i also loved sheila from otherwise known as sheila the great. (all of judy blume's protagonists are great!)

and laura ingalls from the little house series

and from a completely different genre Alex from A Clockwork Orange.
