I can't wait to hit 50 just so i can start reading the long books i want to tackle!

I'll be thrilled if I reach 30 books next year -- i think my emphasis is definitely going to shift more to quality rather than quantity

I'm sure I'll still have some shorter palate cleanser type of reads in there as well, but the overall tone will be different

Yeah I couldn't get behind the idea of racing. I only read the books I wanted to, and I don't like short books. Which is probably my year's total is around 14

i always tried to read shorter books in between my long books (which i also prefer), but i practically had to force myself. especially now that i want to finish a series, but all the books have 1,000 pages...
but i got a Kindle for my birthday so now i can read during my boring classes:innocent: and read whatever i feel like atm. i love the feel, smell, sound and look of real books, but i can say that the Kindle is amazing for book-lovers:heart:

I think my years total is 10. (Although we have a month left...)
- Pretty Little Liars, Flawless, Perfect, Unbelievable, Wicked, Killer, all by Sara Shepard.
- L. A. Candy, Sweet Little Lies, Sugar and Spice, all by Lauren Conrad.
- One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel García Marquez.

i tend to do the same sort of thing...

i've been debating for so long about the kindle and i just haven't made the switch to the e-reader yet. i'm sure i would love it, i'm just one of those people who has a hard time letting go of what i'm used to :P

and i just love the feel of a real book.

Me too! I can't wait for 2012 now. :woot: I've made a list of books that I could possibly like and I'm trying to be as accurate
as possible about my taste, since I don't to waste time.... I'm too picky about my choices and I only like thick books.
Guys, what do you think of making a thread about book recommendations based on taste?
I know there is already a thread about recommendations, but I wish for something more precise,
where you can help the reader choose something according to their taste and even their mood.
I don't know if people here will be interested. Feedback, please. :flower:

I think I might stop at 40 books this year, just to make it a nice even number

I don't know that we need a separate thread for that... since taste is so hard to define...
i think we've had discussions in this thread relating to book recommendations... people saying, i like this type of book, does anyone have recommendations for something in that vein.

and we have the book review thread too, and often people will recommend the book they've reviewed for people who like xyz

asking for recommendations in here is a good way to generate discussions beyond just lists of what everyone's currently reading ^_^

speaking of lists... i need to update mine.
i'm almost there!

reading some thrillers to get me to the 50 book goal :P

47: Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain

I really liked A Visit From the Goon Squad by the way...
I viewed it more as a connected series of short stories than a novel and found it interesting to see how the characters' lives were woven together and how they resurfaced at different stages in their lives

47. The secret by Rhonda Byrne
48. Endymion by Dan Simmons

It wasn't right time to me to read The secret. When you sister stayed in hospital while doctors played bingo, all you need some hope, not advice that you get what you wish for. The most of times I just wanted to throw book away, but maybe some other time I would believe this. Actually there was one good thing: all that "believe that you have it all already" made me buy Sandman comics (by Neil Gaiman) which I have planned to buy for years, and I have enjoyd them very much.

Endymion was my bus reading, I think when you have to do something that is not fun about, at least reading should be good.

Next year, I'm not gonna try to reach 50 books, this has been too much. Like someone said, I want to read some quality rather than quantity.. I have read some very bad books this year because of this :ninja: I like reading but I simply not have that much time than before and I like to enjoy reading, not feeling I'm back to school. But you live and you learn I guess

I usually read books by writer. So I read all books that some writer wrote and I love to read them in order (by years of publishing).

Do you rather buy books or borrow them from the library?

^
I do prefer to buy them but I read so much that I can't afford to buy every book I read and even if I did I don't have that much space in my bookcase...But I do buy many books because I like to read them again...it's a good thing that the library is actually in the same building that I live :P

unfortunately i didn't get anywhere near....not even remotely.....50 books. so much has happened in my family this year it's been rather time consuming. i did get a few in and at the moment i'm in the middle of patti smith's recently re-issued 'woolgathering'.

49. Matkalla - Martti Ahtisaaren tarina by Katri Merikallio and Tapani Ruokanen
this is former President of Finland, Nobel Peace Prize winner and diplomat Martti Ahtisaare's biography. Quite interesting actually, I'm not huge fan biographies but all his diplomatic negotitions and stuff was pretty interesting, and I would love to read more that kind of stuff. Too bad that half of book was boring president stuff, just boring campaign and way too specific seven years from his life (the first part of book (150 pages) took about 90 years from his life. But I guess that is role which we know him better here.

So exiciting, only one book to go! I don't know if it gonna be Around the world in 80 days by Jules Verne (it would be about time to finish it, I got it from my Secret Santa last year), The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of his friend Marilyn Monroe by Andrew O'Hagan (I seem to try to read all Marilyn books, even the weirdest) but probably it will be Under the dome by Stephen King because it is library book and I don't have much time left before I have to return it.

I mostly borrowed from the library, it helped impose a time limit.

I did plan my reading around the terms of the challenge instead of simply doing it for fun, but I've spent most of my life having to read to deadlines, so it didn't feel that unnatural for me to do that.
