Favourite Painters

lately it's been a lot of newer painters and local artists, i love living in one of the artistic capitals.

and for famous: Fernando Botero! i'm surprised nobody has mentioned him.
 
Peter Vink is a New Zealand artist from my hometown Wellington, I absolutely LOVE his paintings. They capture New Zealands scenery so well and they look so real.

droogist I love most of those you mentioned but I would also add Balthus to my list.
 
^i love the ones droogist posted as well and i also like balthus, helena!
i went to the balthus retrospective in venice a few years ago, it was overwhelming...he himself was so beautiful, too.

from the past...i dwell in the atmosphere of manet, lautrec, modersohn-becker, goya, vermeer, kahlo, soutine, rembrandt, twombly, jorn, bacon, vuillard, degas, spilliaert, ...and many more...for all different reasons

anna - haa haa I have a set of nine Nara framed prints on my kitchen wall.

I would love to have seen that Balthus retrospective!
 
what lovely choices :woot: lol, I've decided to dedicate all the free time I have this summer to learning more about contemporary artists ^_^

i love jenny saville...which reminds me i haven't been up on my contemporary art lately..i think i should dedicate a thread to it..?
 
Salvador Dali..and more recently, Alex Ross (for his work in the world of comics)
 
I attend art school and am pursuing a fine arts degree, so I am constantly around a lot of art which is great. But I must say seeing some of the stuff that people produce for critiques is amazing, plus some teachers work, and they are always bring in books of differnet so its a great to see all this different art. But for big artists Peter Bruegel, Monet, Paul Klee, Sergent, too many to name.
