^^ She's nice and fresh looking. Love the roundness of her lips. She's a bit of Lauryn Hill, Brandy and Heather Headley mixed up into one. Exotic goodness all over.

When was the last time a black model was as successful as Joan Smalls?

she looks good but boy at least on the show she acts like she can't work her face. no variety in expressions at all. I don't know what her mental block is. Its quite disappointing.

Isn't it a shame when a gorgeous girl don't know how to work with her face.

does anyone know who sam sarpong is? I always see him on tv being reffered to as a UK based supermodel that has done ads for Gucci and LV yet i never heard of him.

I'm sure others would like to add their own views , but for me, it was Naomi Campbell. She was a phenomenon (and still is to this day) to the fashion industry in her "hey" day. I'll also add Tyra, Liya, Alex.

And kudos Joan for her success to date. She's in for a tough ride, with Karlie and Arizona also on the scene

I've heard of him, but only as being referred to as June Sarpong's brother. June is a well-known presenter, here in the UK (she hosted MTV UK for a number of years) and has hosted a number of shows too. They are of Ghanaian descent.

Good news for al you African model followers, Vogue Italia is planning to release an Africa edition in june and Franca has been going all around Africa meeting designers and doing photoshoots with local models wearing clothes by local designers to be featured in the mag. From what i see its going to be a feast!

oh God I'm so happy right now for this news.

This is great! Could you imagine the number of new faces we could see in those pages and the exposure they will get the models, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, stylists, editors. I really want there to be a strong black presence behind the scenes no whitewashing, no cultural insensitivity, no trite concepts for editorials.

Wow, this looks like it's going to be fantastic, look at some of those designs! Thanks for the news.

gotta give it to her for investing as much time and effort in African/Black models and fashion in an otherwise not so friendly to black industry
check out her blog on the Vogue Italia website she wrote about her travels

I remember a photog in France who was trying to get support to start/establish a Vogue Africa but it never went anywhere. Maybe this is the reason why ^^

tru dat, hopefully this will show them that the industry is more than ready. Nigeria alone can sustain its own Vogue, same goes to South Africa
