Never saw this thread before! I must say that I think Yasmin Warsame is one of the most amazing, regal, elegant models of all time. Face and body are absolute perfection! She deserves a billion times more work than she gets, I just love her!

And why would fashion houses need to use black models just to amend what happens (whatever it is in your opinion) It should be up to the designer's own choice or else it would just be pointless and not showing the models true capabilities.
Although I'm a bit scared to say this because of some of the replies to this post, I must say I do agree. A designer should pick girls based on how they mold into the collection and how the designer likes them as a model, NOT because of their skin color or race. I believe that selecting a model because of their race and not their actual talent is tasteless and discrediting/insulting to the model's actual talent. Those who have the skill and the right look should book the jobs, regardless of race. I would imagine a model would feel more offended than anything if they learned that they were selected for a show only because the designer wanted a girl of a certain race and not because of their modeling potential. Just my 2 cents, hopefully nobody takes it offensively, I don't want to step on anyone's toes :flower:

^So basically then the norm is OK? Your "2 cents" basically indicates the problem in the fashion industry. " designer should pick girls based on how they mold into the collection and how the designer likes them as a model, NOT because of their skin color". As a collective, the fashion industry is prejudice (and among other things). If designers followed your statement (for the most part already do) blacks might be lucky just to sweep the catwalks and dream about modeling for a designer. It's funny, you can have 100 European (Caucasian) models and one black model yet someone in the fashion industry will brag about how they have a black model and all is good.

I do think that models should be chosen for how well they show of the clothes and express the vision the designer. but when it comes to the high fashion industry it's more complicated issue. when they are so many white models dominating the runway in this day and age, it's not far fetched to assume that designers and magazine editors are reluctant to book ethnic models for the job.

I think no one could argue, no matter how violent & tyrannical she can be, Naomi Campbell probably is like the biggest black supermodel in history.
