Flip Flops

I'm with you on this one meme, flip flops should be worn at home, the beach, the gym, and only with casual streetwear when it's high summer. Even then it should be a fancier type flip flop, not rubber ones. I had a foot accident this summer and had to wear flip flops to work for a few weeks and I almost died every day of embarrassment.

yup, I'm a dork :p

I so agree with you!!! I just cannot comprehend flip flop mania !! I truly believe that flip flops are part of a beach wear and not city wear! :) I understand that they're extremely comfy but just not something i think should be worn on the streets of a big city!!! :)

fancy flip to me just means one made out of leather, wooden sole, etc....just not the rubber variety. trust me, as popular as havaianas are, you will NEVER see an elegant brasilian woman past a certain age walking around rio wearing them unless they're on their way to the beach. They would never consider going to work, or to a restaurant for instance in rubber flip flops.

What meme didn't mention is that it rained here yesterday, which means that woman may have stepped in a puddle or two. Blech!

so true! i couldn't imagine how these women did it, it was like being baredoot on wet, puddly city streets with goodness knows what floating around. not to mention the wind-chill factor.

i am all for comfort (can't wear heels, but admire them from afar) , but that's why there are so many stylish flats, ladies! and this is perfect weather for those gorgeous boots we are seeing on the runways.

i hear you guys, but it's still hard for me to relate to flip flops, even on casual fridays....

:flower:

to each her own feet, i suppose!

I find it hard to relate to boots. Not only are they expensive I HATE the way they scrunch around peoples ankles. yuk. I find that more embarrassing. And nothing is more gross on a rainy day than have your shoe and sock soaked through whereas a flip flop your foot gets wet two second later it's dry. I don't know, it is to each their own. And honestly, we have about 5 different threads on this subject already.

I'm with meme all the way on this.

I was staring in horrified fascination and wondering how anyone could be almost barefoot in yesterday's weather in downtown SF.

And in general, while I like nice sandals (on women), cheap flipflops look pretty bad to me except poolside, at the beach, etc. (says the guy who wears vans or converse almost every day )

I do agree.....its a tacky american thing, people wear them EVERYWHERE and with everything. I think it boils down to pure laziness....they're really comfortable, which doesnt make it right I know.

Okay, I've merged to create one GIANT flip flop thread! Regardless, I hardly see how flipflops are American

I dont either, but Ive been told by you Europeans that its an "American thing". I guess because we the only ones who wear them outside the beach??? I dunno.

I would say that the whole world wears them except Europeans. I have lived in North America and Europe and european women are always dressed up. No track suits, or trainers with work clothes. I have to admit at first I thought the casualness of North America was very unappealing to me but now I enjoy it myself.

Here in the Philippines, everyone is crazy over flipflops, esp Havaianas. I was once addicted to it, and bought, like, 40 pairs. I've since sold most of them (the never worn pairs) off eBay. I know people who collect Havaianas. One girl has around 200 pairs, another 150 pairs.

My friend Pam was one of the first people to fall for Havs. You may see her inventory in her blog: www.nocturnalangel2.blogspot.com.

The most comfortable, I found, are the cheap ones from Old Navy. I buy the beige colored ones. ;) My favorites.

i can understand *buying * them. i just can't understand *wearing* them anywhere!

Those giant foamy ones are great for the beach or gym with those nasty public showers. That'll keep your feet WAY off the floor.

Or in the ocean so you don't step on anything sharp and pokey?

well, i am so very sloppy and wear flip-flops as much as i possibly can. of course, i don't wear them outside of very casual situations- (hate that people can think they wear their rubber flip flops with their formal wear.) most comfortable i've found are hands down TEVA, so comfy.

i have these in black,

Reef sandals are nice. Only about 20$.

Good quality but after they get old, they do rub off their color onto your feet.

Anybody know of cheap yet nice flip flops? MKA wear some that aren't very special, but I like the design.

Old Navy once had lovely flip flops and then they redesigned the soles, so they make the feet look fatter. BOO.

Everyone down here in San Diego wears Rainbow flip-flops. Over here. Perfect for the "bruh" community. I want a pair for my lazy days.

^ Another Cali user on here told me about those. I have never heard of the brand.

They look quite comfy. ^_^ I can tell by just the photos.
