i love edith piaf's music...i also really like coralie clément.. françoise hardy {though i must admit i admire her pictures more than i listen to her music these days }, madeleine peyroux, olivia ruiz, and carla bruni.... i feel as though i'm forgetting someone...

i also like mylène farmer.

fh was such a fashion icon in the 60s. especially when she wore that paco rabanne number:

and that motorcycle picture...

i like her 60s fashion much better than her 60s yeh-yeh music.

^ grr... I scanned that. Anyway. -_-
Françoise Hardy forever. She has the most soothing voice...

I hope you don't mind that I have to change the thread title, since English is the main language in tFS and we are trying to make threads more search-friendly.

i havent heard of mylène farmer...thanks for the suggestion..

i love this picture of françoise...

oops sorry about the post title (and stealing your scan :o)
anyway yeah she has a really pleasant voice and she is a good lyricist...whether you are head over heels for somebody or you are in the middle of some bitter break-up, there is a françoise song to go with your mood...

eta: i should have just made this a françoise hardy thread.

It's OK ;) the author of the blog stole it, not you!
There's already a Françoise Hardy thread, but not one for 'chanteuses françaises' in general. Here, we can still discuss who we prefer.

yeah..i like the idea of a general thread..

i am listening to coralie clément now..this thread reminded me...
she is quite beautiful too...^_^ she says françoise and jane birkin are big inspirations for her..

^coralie clément kind of looks like shannon doherty, only much prettier and less haggard
i've never heard her music but i love discovering a new french singer

^yes i will...i'm going to go to virgin tomorrow to check her out. in the meantime, can you tell me a few of her most catchy songs?

I love Julie Delpy and Charlotte Gainsbourg even though they mostly sing in English. and Jane Birkin's songs in French.. even though she's not french!.
Françoise Hardy is a favorite as well..

I've been listening to Edith Piaf a lot lately.. what a voice..

i havent heard julie delpy sing!. i didnt even know she sang. :o my my..she is talented. :woot: i will have to check this out...

paul i love Samba de mon coeur qui bat...i think it's one of the catchiest  also Bientot...and La mer opale
you can listen to some clips here...http://www.last.fm/music/Coralie+Clément

as much as i love charlotte as an actress, i just don't like her music very much....sometimes if i am in the right mood it will suit as mellow background music.. but i find both her and jane birkin as singers a bit irritating to be honest :o :ninja:..
..it is not the kind of music i can sit with and concentrate on., rather i have to be doing something else and just half-listening....like painting or having a conversation or something ^_^...then sometimes it contributes to a nice mood...

keren ann!. :woot: that's who i was forgetting...
i LOVE her duet with benjamin biolay, Decrocher les etoiles  he is actually Coralie Clément 's brother. :o talented family...

here is Keren..

i have to admit when it comes to french chanteuses francoise hardy has had the biggest affect on me of any of them....both the music and her style and image. she really set herself apart after her first album with a more melancholy, sentimental sensibility and then this wonderful lush, cinematic feel to much of her music with her knack for sweeping arrangements in the 60s and 70s. i think she was the most innovative of the 'ya-ya' girls.

and edith piaf is my other favourite. i don't think anybody is as compelling as she was.

I can totally understand why you say that.. I personally see Charlotte's music as very very intimate.. I don't think I could bare it in a saturated environment.. whether it's saturated by a group of friends or just extreme weather.. I feel like I really need to be at peace with myself and my surroundings in order to absorb it all and let it speak to me clearly and get emotions out of it.. funny how certain music needs very individual elements in order to be appreciated, huh?..

anyway, I uploaded something for you, adorefaith!.. it's Julie.. just three songs.. but hope you like it. :p:heart:

oh wow Mullet..thank you, that's so kind :woot:  i am going to listen now...i will let you know!
