lately i've been listening to mc solaar and Expression Direkt.
what are some other good names to look into?

I have to say, french rap and hiphop is a really different flavour to those in english. and it's nice.

MC Solaar's older work is great. checkout the stuff he did with Guru of Gang Starr is you haven't already. Also check out DJ Cam, Kid Loco, DJ Seeq, DIMITRI from Paris, and Jimmy Jay.

French hip hop is mos def sexy. Lately there has been a lot of the 'hardcore rap' stuff coming out of France which I like much less than the more mellow, jazzy sound of the names I listed above. However, even gangsta rap sounds better in French

yes, solaar's older work was much better. The last two albums are very subpar.

Hmmm, hard to choose, They are all worth having. Try to find the older import stuff though. good luck!
