hey tott-my take on why everyone thinks parisians are rude...it's a very busy metropolis and moves at a very fast pace...all major cities are stressful places to live...i think this stress can come accross as rude...but they act that way towards each other just as much as they do towards foreigners...it's just life in the big city and some people aren't used to it...

[/quote]I, too, don't understand the stereotype that Parisians are rude. They are polite in that when they go into a store or restaurant, they say hello. They say please and thank you. They do not however, use false smiles and compliments which I think tends to throw some people/non-Parisians off. I have a very advanced English student from Paris who has told me about her coworkers here in SF who are so phony, yet she laughs it off because what else can she do. She thinks it is not being direct and to the point which is where the phoniness steps in. I really admire how direct she is and am working on being extremely direct myself. I love it.

I love the so called "french style", but apart from celebrities in there I never see it personified in France's streets. I see more non-french people trying and with success looking how the french were suppose to look.

Well It's just my opinion, I lived there for a while, my impression of french or better said Parisian day to day style is exactly like the candids that we see in the topic of Paris street style, not very inspiring . I like the idea of french style like we see in eds movies, french celebs, but I could not find it at all in real life. I see way better reproductions of that style here in London, that's where i'm living at the moment.

When I go there I always see a few inspiring-ly stylish and impeccably dressed women but most people are just as poorly dressed as Americans lol.
I think it also depends on which area of Paris you hang out.. Classic, refined, chic almost mythical French elegance is rarely seen outside some very specifics places in Paris... Say avenue Montaigne, Faubourg saint-Honoré, Passy.
Then it also depends on what you expect style-wise.
French, or in this case Parisians as most people actually talk about Paris, are not as daring as Londoners.
What I like when I'm in London for example is that people don't care what you're wearing whereas in Paris, you get so much stares and comments when you wear something a little out of the ordinary, excentric.
French street-style is certainly more conservative, more subtle, it's all about details, cuts, colors, accessories, fabrics and maybe it's because I'm older or I'm getting more chauvinistic but I like it and aspire to it more each days.
Then it also depends on what you expect style-wise.

When i think of french women i think of a girl wearing a blue and black striped shirt, and the shirt has this slightly loose boat neck and the sleeves goes a little longer than the elbows. She's wearing black pants, skinny pants but they're not jeans and they're slightly rolled up at the end. Her hair is blonde and shorter than to the shoulders, it's soft and shiny. The blonde colour is more white than yellow but it's still sophisticated. The hair is covered with a red beret, the ones that doesn't have holes in them. The typical french one. She's wearing those shoes you typically see your grandmother in, but she makes them work. They're loafers, beautiful loafers. Her bag is a black, simple bag and in the bag there's cigarettes. Two packs of gitanes and a pack of Marlboro reds.
