I was posting to find out if there are any Fruitarians out there on TFS. If there are, what are your personal experiences with it? :flower:

Fruitarianism is very similar to the raw food diet. Don't get me wrong I ABSOLUTELY love my fruit but I find that I can only eat 4-5 pieces a day or my stomach hurts and gets bloated! Ah! LOL must be too much fibre! I think existing on fruit alone would be very painful!

I don't see how one could survive on fruit alone.
I can do the veggie thing but not just fruit.

I'm borderline fruitarian/rawfoodist. As a fruitarian, you eat nothing but fruit and nuts.

How fitting!!!

I actually just finished watching the lovely movie that is "Notting Hill" and this quote from it is rather appropriate here...........

Keziah: No thanks, I'm a fruitarian.
Max: I didn't realize that.
William: And, ahm: what exactly is a fruitarian?
Keziah: We believe that fruits and vegetables have feeling so we think cooking is cruel. We only eat things that have actually fallen off a tree or bush - that are, in fact, dead already.
William: Right. Right. Interesting stuff. So, these carrots...
Keziah: Have been murdered, yes.
William: Murdered? Poor carrots. How beastly!

^_^

I love that movie so much. That moment where she says : have been murdered. yes. makes me laugh so much!

And I eat tons of fruits, but its simply not healthy in my eyes to only eat fruits.

Hmm, I'm a vegetarian and have been for many years. I don't know how I feel about this fruitarian business, living on fruits and nuts alone couldn't be healthy, I'd imagine. But, hey, whatever floats your boat!

My stomach hurts just thinking about all that sugar! Sounds delicious, though...I love black berries

Most of it is hype, honest. Fruitarians don't cook their food above one hundred and some degrees because they think it kills off vital nutrients. After feeling exhausted and just crappy for months, I kicked fruitarianism to the ditch. It's been proven over and over again that it is seriously unhealthy, yet people cling on to it like a religion or child. The only pro of it all, is that once you stop doing it, you appreciate food and flavor so much more. Also, I cannot eat fast food or anything super unnatural, or I feel very, very, very sick (headaches, nausea, etc). But this is true of anything extremely restrictive...

I'm rather ashamed by being caught in all the hooplah.:rolleyes:

I have been one for a month two years ago.... it doesn't feel good, just too much sugar, and not enough energy.

I'm trying to make a gradual shift to fruitarianism/rawfoodfism so my body learns how to absorb the proper nutrients. We train our bodies how to absorb the nutrients it needs from cooked food, so a gradual shift is only logical. It would be dangerous to suddenly make a dietary switch so dramatic.

I once saw a programme about frutarians and sorry but it sounded disgusting.

Not just because of all the radicalism involved, but also since you can only it what it falls from the tree, all the fuit was half roten and looking really yuck!

I don´t really like radicalisms....so beeing a frutarian sounds like a name made up for some really messed and obssesed people.

To generalise all fruitarians as, "radicalists," is extreme. What's the point to focus on extremes?

The fruitarians I know buy fruit at healthfoods stores (ie, Wholefoods) and usually supplement their diet with consistent thoughtfulness when it comes to nutrition and balancing different vegetable-fruits and regular fruits.

I think rawfoodism and fruitarianism is the "vegetarianism of the 1960s-80s."

...

And, there is a documented difference between, "white refined sugars", and whole natural fruit sugars.

In other words, you can't compare the artificial sugars that go into an Oreo to the sugars that nature places into a natural harmony in a Banana.

hmm i suggest anyone interested in this or a similar diet please take a look at beyondveg.com it's very informative about these type of diets and the effects with advice from people that are on these diets or have been, it also talks about orthorexia, i looked at this when i was reconsidering going vegan/vegetarian ( and decided not to, i was for years and it wasnt for me but reconsidered because of my buddhist faith but in the end its not for me ) and it is very eye opening, if you are really into these diets its hard to look at it objectively but gives honest info, but i will summarize for you, basically its saying its not natural for humans if you look at our history biologically we are omnivores and always have been, but these types of diets have optimal short term benefits for those who need to recover from illness or need to jump start a path to better health, but it is not healthy for a long term lifestyle, also it shows tons of misinformation presented by advocates of these types of diets, and how successfull people have been long term

i've cut out junk food so have been replacing it by fruit and let me tell you, it really doesn't make you feel better. talk about stomach cramps. i can't imagine what eating only fruit would do to you, it's not healthy.
