I have to admit that I kind of dislike this style. This is very difficult way to dress. You can either succeed or the outfit looks totally hideous, because this look will wake attention.. I think I wouldn't have courage to try. I look forward to see this style in stores! Then it's easier to see how the streetstyle can handle this look.

I love this trend. I don't know how wearable it is in the long run but its most certainly beautiful. I wrote a piece on this trend for my blog.

I love this... even if I couldn't pull most of it off. Theres no reason that people should not be pushing the boundaries of clothing! We can't keep rehashing different decades' trends forever. I am all for this.

but the 60's already did futurism, (courrege, cardin, paco robanne...). It's all a cycle.

I am a little bit biased about this. I think I like it though, although at a time I thought I was bored of it. What changed my mind was seeing the current Style supplement of Time magazine, they have featured for example the Chalayan bubble dress quite beautifully. Does anyone have scans from that photo shoot? I think they brought clothes to view especially well, instead of bringing up the setting or the models.

Bump - I adore this trend these days. Does anyone have more good material on this? Am I the only one who thinks there was something futuristic in Jil Sander's metallic dresses this season (F/W 07-08)?

I am also totally into the whole futurama thing.
It's so easy to style for everyday and so nice to see after all the retro comebacks, that are obviously normal and pretty, but still, the future works very well for me.

i don't mean to sound like a nag but it really bugs me when people apply the term 'futurism' to fashion as futurism was an art movement which began in italy in the early 20th century.

although the clothing featured in this thread appears very futuristic and is innovative in its use of materials, i hardly think it's contemporary or progressive. it almost seems expected that fashion designers are so obviously trying to move on and away from the pastiche of previous styles that has plagued fashion in an age that both rejects and accepts the presence of postmodernism.

that is not to say that i don't think this particular movement is important; it's a sign of what's to come and that the realisation of the ability of fashion and design principles to progress does not merely have to be manifested by models who look like R2D2.
