I've noticed a recurrence of the popularity of clothing and accessories that were predicted by means of books and movies about the future. Is the future upon us? Were their predictions accurate or was is the power of suggestion that has propelled us into this age of fashion?

i love this, especially the recent trend towards disco-ball dresses over the past year or so

Ahh, this trend is reminiscent of Dolce&Gabbana F/W 2007 with the metallic corsets, masks, and shiny fabrics. That was one of my favorite collections ever!
When I think of futuristic I instantly think of Balenciaga, they always seem to have that aesthetic in their collections.
I wonder if we will be seeing this trend carried out into the general mainstream public. It would be interesting to see average local mall girls in latex dresses, shiny skinny trousers, and metallic bustier dresses

a designer needs to incorporate a Tron inspiration into their collection.

Two years ago, the leather/latex leggings look would have fallen into this category.

It's Back to the Future! I can't believe people thought we would wear metallic (kind of robotic) fabrics as commom clothing about 40 years ago . I don't think someone could wear any of those outfits (perhaps not the dresses -if you are a celebrity in a hip red carpet, in that case you're damn lucky-) and not be stared at, I mean everyone who looked at you would still think is futuristic. Maybe it's still too early in the 2000s. But the "1984" (by George Orwell) style of the future .. that I CAN believe, it's just that jumpsuits are very practical and can be stylish too.

A lot of it is stuff I don't think we're ready for yet, stylistically. In my opinion a lot of those outfits are a bit of a jump into fashion realms that we aren't yet exploring walking casually on the street and dressing for work.

Kim Kardashian (picture from www.kimkardashian.com) on her blog posted a picture of her wearing glasses by Maison Martin Margiela

I'm not sure, these i think are a bit more practical because of the rounded out edges. they have the same kind of frame shape that have been in past sunglasses trends but are still just kind of silly. I agree with Afanasi, i think they're getting closer to toning down to look to where people are trying out the trend, but it's still something most of us would not wear

So true

Someone has to push the envelope before everyone else is wearing it.

I love it that designers create something new even though it may seem strange in the beginning.

I love those outfits from post1
