Gap drops SJP

Although Sarah Jessica Parker gave give a more "important status", given that SJP is a high fashion lady after all, Joss Stone is much more appropriate and fits the Gap image a bit more.

But of course I think Sarah was interesting and different for a company like Gap. I still remember the surprise some members had when they learned that she was going to do Gap ads, and the even bigger surprises after the ads came out. It was quite different to see someone who's usually into Narcisco Rodriguez and Manolos go a bit more simple. I think the deal btwn Gap and SJP made profits for both parties, and it would have ended friendly one day or the other. :flower:

I don't know if anyone who's posted here is fron England, but here in London, many people have simply found those Gap ads of SJP rather irritating.
I think Joss Stone will look really good for gap as her style is so relaxed and easy. With SJP is always seemed so forced. Like someone said a few pages back, SJP was often on the worst dressed listed before SATC.
I think that SJP has lost whatever she had with SATC recently - I mean, soap adverts, Gap, her own perfume soon. Pur-lease. I loved SATC, but now I think she's taking it into overkill.
Anyway, she looks like a horse. :D

I think most people who shop the most at GAP are around my age--mid 20s. I think if they really wanted to hook that demographic, they'd use a spokesmodel who is like an icon of our generation, like Drew Barrymore.

Joss Stone is very cute, though, and I am sure she'll look very cute in a pair of khaki cargoes.

I'm not a big fan of GAP in any event. Their stuff looks pretty chic on SJP, but on me, it looks like something I might have nicked out of somebody else's laundry hamper. I've tried their stuff on before, and I don't know if their sizing is weird or their cuts, or what, but I always look dumpy in their clothes, and I simply cannot wear beige, no matter who makes it or who promotes it, so khakis are right out. They are exactly the same color as my skin, which looks really creepy!

I liked SJP's Pretty Khaki commercial as well. :)

Joss Stone does have a nice voice but I don't really see her as Gap material.

CelineChic, no need to force people that much to believe in your opinion. Although I think that Gap made a wise choice by dropping her because she's been there for a while, I do find it rather weird to replace her by a 'star' who is yet to come up. She's not that much of a big artist so far.

SJP for me...

I personally prefer SJP cause she has a great personality and she's BIG when it comes to fashion.
On the other hand Joss Stone is prettier, younger and talented but not a fahion icon, not yet.

I think that changing models is preferable, cause you don't get bored over the same person. Still... i believe that it was a little bit soon...

Hopefully these ads will make her name more common.

Well said. I'm not really angry that they changed models but I question they're choice a bit. And, I agree that she could have lasted a little longer.

Damn! For some reason, those commercials really put me in a good mood. Can't explain why... what a shame

SJP for gap wasn't going to last forever. I agree with Softie.

Maybe they wanted Joss Stone because of the whole "Bohemian Fashion" movement? Her look has been compared to that of Janis Joplin...

I think she's unique looking though

^^^ I agree. Joss is lovely! But I think SJP did a great job with the gap ads. Oh well, nothing lasts forever anyway.

I like Joss Stone. I like her voice, her looks, quite a few of her songs and I like her seemingly laid back attitude. I adore SJP too, before SATC even.

Either way I'm happy that SJP has better and bigger things to look forward to and I'm also looking forward to seeing my current favourite singer in the upcoming GAP ads

Yes, Joss is lovely and soulful and boy can she sing...I can listen to her album all day long and it is nice for GAP to showcase someone who is relatively famous but not tremendously

I think the gap is trying to move away from the sophisticated style that sjp represented to the current trendy bohemian look that Joss Stone represents. it makes sense from a marketing point. girls aren't buying cute blazers with flowers in the lapel at the moment, they're seeing MK Olson and Sienna Miller and buying eccentric boho flow-y skirts etc.

Well, I guess I like that they are using women (OK, in this case a girl) who are accomplished in their own right. I have to admit that the Fred Leighton diamonds and what not that SJP wore with the Gap stuff in the ads wasn't tremendously realistic. Gap stuff is made for teenage bodies, and while it's great that SJP has one, many of us who would be interested in her as one of our contemporaries in an ad campaign do not. I buy that kind of stuff for casual wear, but from someplace like Ann Taylor Loft, which is made more for women than children.

On the bright side, pretty cool about MAC and Deneuve ...

what i dont understand is the they dropped her because she is old idea. I mean what if it was time for them to change?

...ok i didn't really care for SJP gap adds..but i'd much prefer to see her than joss stone..joss soooooooooooo doesn't suit gap anyone else think that?
