She has the capacity to look very attractive and very unattractive.

Think about the first couple of seasons of SATC - first the brown curly hair and brown makeup and then the blonde curls and BRIGHT pink blush, bright pink lips and blue eyeshadow. Eeeek.

But I think she was absolutely stunning sometimes - with long straight blonde hair, with an updo and clear lip gloss, then with the cute little cut for her first day at Vogue. (Yes, I totally know this show by heart.)

So she's not a natural beauty but she cleans up nicely.

my thing with sjp is that she wasnt that stylish before SATC? so i think her style is a function of more money and access to better designers/stylists rather than an innate sense of style

Actually I did find her stylish before SATC. Certainly not an icon, but on her way there - Remember that early 90s pin striped suspender suit with with blouse and flats? She showed "quirkiness" even back then. I think why it's not acknowledged is because she was not a *popular* actress back then - so not much media attn.
