Gemma Ward Snags Aussie Film Award Nomination

Gemma Ward in The Black Balloon.

Gemma Ward might have been conspicuous by her absence from the runways for the past two seasons, but she has certainly been making her mark on screen. Nominations for the 2008 Inside Film (IF) Awards in Australia were announced Wednesday and Ward is up for Best Actress for her debut feature role in Elissa Down's "The Black Balloon". It's one of 10 nominations picked up by the coming-of-age romantic comedy. Ward's performance as Jackie Masters, a young woman who helps her boyfriend come to terms with his brother's autism, has already earned Ward the Australian Star of the Year award at the 63rd Australian International Movie Convention last month. "The Black Balloon" has also received both Australian Writers' Guild and Australian Directors' Guild awards, the Don Quijote Prize at Norway's Kristiansand International Children Film Festival and a Crystal Bear for best feature-length film in the youth category at February's Berlin Film Festival. Ward pulled out of the film's world premier in Berlin following the death of her close friend Heath Ledger on January 22nd. Success at October's IF Awards could place Ward in the running for the Australian equivalent of an Oscar come December at the Australian Film Institute Awards.

i highly doubt that gemma and especially liv tyler are going to be in the sequel to "the strangers" 1. the movie was about ONE random act of violence in time. If they used the same villains it would ruin the whole theme of the movie. 2. Liv Tyler died in the movie. oh wait. nvm . aaaa i hate it when they use that cheesy ender in horror movies. It doesn't always have to scream SEQUEL! oh well. if gemma is in it, im seeing it!

Gemma Ward Is NOT Retiring, But Still Not Walking This Season

Earlier this week reports surfaced that Gemma Ward, the baby-faced, blue-eyed, blonde-haired beauty, would be retiring from modeling to pursue her blossoming acting career. But today we have news to the contrary, straight from the model herself.

"I was surprised to wake up this morning and read news of my own retirement. While I am taking some time off currently to rest and enjoy the company of friends and family, I am still very much a (excited and enthusiastic) working model and actress. I'm only 20, for God's sakes."​

Hear that? She's only 20. Let the girl have a break! Her agency, IMG, did confirm for us, however, that she will be taking off through the end of September, which means we won't be seeing her on the spring 2009 runways. That said, we'll be watching carefully to see where she plants herself for her modeling reappearance. It's bound to be something big.
