Film career beckons as Ward conquers catwalks
Perth-born Supermodel Gemma Ward is to fulfill her passion for acting in a WA feature film.
Ward, 18, will play a teenage girl who helps her boyfriend come to terms with his brother's autism in The Black Balloon. The film will reunite the blonde beauty with Perth director Elissa Down, who in 2002 cast her in her short film The Pink Pyjamas.
Down says she and Perth scriptwriter Jimmy Jack created the part with Ward in mind well before she became one of the world's top models.
"At the time, Gemma was just a normal teenager who was an aspiring actor and then her modelling career took off in a big way," Down said.
Ward has spoken of her passion for acting and desire to attend acting school.
Highly regarded producer Tristram Miall (Strictly Ballroom) is on board for the project.

its more appealing to the adience's eyes, as in overall target marketD)... the innocent look(doll look plus figure), grab's attention woot, as it uses contrast by making younger girls wear older clothes, at the same time, its more appealing for the youngs to wear cothing to advertise than an old woman.....(no offence )

i dont know, that's just my view.

muffy I've been trying to hunt down Pink Pyjamas..I doubt it'd be on Australian tv but I'm sure it can be found on DVD..somewhere

now I have BIGG NEWS..well ok not really..but fantastic news

I was in an art gallery this afternoon and a few months ago it had showcased photos by Justin Smith, aka the man who 'discovered and photographed' gemma and a photo taken by him got her noticed overseas

I was too shy to ask but my mum asked if he had anything left from the exhibition, and he led me to his office and showed me this book, which he said had HEAPS of photos from Mark magazine,all by Justin Smith.

and guess what

on the cover..a never before seen photo of gemma and throughout the book there is photographs of gemma and her sister and heaps of other models..but the gemma photos are fantastic!!!

...I asked where I could get it and he said that the last one he heard of that was for sale was in Paris and being sold for $500 AU dollars

so if your rich..keep a look out

also for some interesting reason he immediately said "have you heard the Gemma story" and he said it's almost fairytale like

I mean I know it off by heart..except he said that Justin Smith came back from overseas..the same year that gemma was discovered..I don't know if anyone believes in fate but I thought that was quite interesting. Almost like he finished overseas and came straight to Perth and found a photo of gemma and BAM

hey acester I think Gemma was on at last two maybe three Mark Magazine covers . There was one with big stripes on it so it was hard to tell it was her.
Saw it at Borders ages ago but it was something like $50 a copy so didnt purchase a copy. But i know I have never seen it posted on any forums etc it would be good to try and get a copy of it but maybe not for $500 dollars.
By the way what gallery was it you were at?... was it Goddard de Fiddes

melbguy I don't think he meant Mark Magazine was $500 I think he just meant that there were heaps of photos from Mark magazine in the book..I am so in love with that book

Your so lucky you've seen a Mark Magazine!! That gives me new hope I might buy it with my pocket money or something and promise not to buy another magazine for three months

there was another mark magazine with lots of photos of gemma on a beach in all these cut out swimsuits, but i only ever saw it once about 2 or 3 yrs ago, they were great photos though.
