YOUNG Aussie Gemma Ward has knocked Kate Moss off her perch as the new face of a risque Calvin Klein ad.
The 17-year-old Perth model is the new face of the Calvin Klein Obsession fragrance and has posed provocatively with her naked derriere rising from a pool of water.
"When Calvin called to say I was doing the new Obsession campaign I was really excited; I remembered seeing pictures of Kate Moss in fashion magazines," New York-based Ms Ward said.
It ends Moss's 10-year reign as the face of Obsession. And it's a high-profile gig that the Australian, now ranked in the top three working models today, was excited to land.
"I was ecstatic when I found out it was going to be me," she said.
Modelling industry sources put the value of the contract at at least $1.3m.
"A cosmetic campaign is what every girl would try to achieve, it's the pinnacle," Suzie Deveridge, of Gemma's Sydney agency Viviens Model Management, said.
"This takes Gemma to a whole new level; she's now a mega-model."
Chic Model's Kathy Ward said international cosmetic contracts paid the most.
Ads for the US designer Calvin Klein have propelled their stars into the modelling stratosphere. Brooke Shields catapulted to fame in a commercial for Calvin Klein Jeans, proclaiming nothing came between "me and my Calvins". Aussie Travis Fimmel bared his tight Y-fronts on a giant billboard to promote underwear.
