Gemma Ward

She looks flawless in that backstage shot from Valentino... the lipstick color suits her complexion and hair very well.

I'm also eager to see where she went! Hope she's making good use of her time. ;p

I just read on ONTD on Livejournal that Gemma may or may not be retiring from modeling... PLEASE JUST BE A RUMOUR. :(

saw her in the strangers. cant wait until the black balloon comes out on dvd so i can see her on that! i think she'll be an incredible actress.

Gemma Ward Retiring From Modelling
*Pedestrian Exclusive
Woahhh aren't we about to drop a bomb...
Our homegal Gemma Ward is soon to "officially retire" from the catwalk to pursue the bright lights of Hollywood, an insider source told Pedestrian.
I hope that this is one of those insiders who doesn't know anything

she can't do too much in hollywood. I just feel her look will limit her.
I hope she proves us wrong :( I know how much fun acting is but she is such a great model

Don't expect to see Gemma Ward at the shows this season. The Aussie superstar is rumored to be retiring officially from modeling to pursue her love of acting. Before you write her off as yet another model turned actress turned joke, she's getting good reviews for her turn in The Black Balloon, alongside Toni Collette. And she was in The Strangers (we didn't see it either). So if we have to bid adieu to one of the cutest girls on the runway, at least we'll still (we hope) catch her on the big screen.

Well, as someone who reads Gemma's interviews any chance I get I'm not surprised at all. She's always said that she a) never planned to be a model, b) always wanted to be an actress and c) modeling simply provided a platform for her to get into the acting world. She never saw it as a long term thing and in a tv interview for "Black Balloon" she said that she'd probably take on special modeling jobs for a while but that she's ready to move on to acting.

I think from the movie choices she's made so far she's definitely interested in acting rather than Hollywood per se. :flower:

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't even know if I believe it's specifically Hollywood that she's focusing on but just that people assume that if she wants to act, she must obviously be focused on being a Hollywood star.

^^That's true. I just wished it would be Hollywood because that would mean that we can see her on events like the Oscars or that she gets really good roles (which is not guaranteed and she can also play great or even better characters in "normal" productions).

i hope she will be able to grab something better in Hollywood than cheesy horror movie

Earlier this week reports surfaced that Gemma Ward, the baby-faced, blue-eyed, blonde-haired beauty, would be retiring from modeling to pursue her blossoming acting career. But today we have news to the contrary, straight from the model herself.
"I was surprised to wake up this morning and read news of my own retirement. While I am taking some time off currently to rest and enjoy the company of friends and family, I am still very much a (excited and enthusiastic) working model and actress. I'm only 20, for God's sakes."
Hear that? She's only 20. Let the girl have a break! Her agency, IMG, did confirm for us, however, that she will be taking off through the end of September, which means we won't be seeing her on the spring 2009 runways. That said, we'll be watching carefully to see where she plants herself for her modeling reappearance. It's bound to be something big.

That's right Gem, and we love you! :woot:

So we still have hope for her modelling reappearance, that's sooo great! ^_^

I have a feeling she'll come back with a vengeance after her well deserved time off.

I hope she pops up at Chanel or something and that she gets a campaign!!

She really needs something like an [exclusive] Chanel campaign for her to go the way of supermodeldom.

LOL only 20! That's so true , she's done so much!
Don't worry folks, we have plenty future Gemma :)
