WEAREONE Magazine discovers this Serbian model and her best tips for a casting to look awake! ‘Georgina Stojiljkovic: The model with the heart shaped lips’…
WEAREONE Magazine (WAO) – When did you discover fashion?
Georgina – I believe it happened when I was 6 or 7, standing in front of my tiny children closet thinking I have nothing to wear, and going to my mom’s instead.
WAO – Tell us something about your beginnings in Serbia
Georgina – I was 15 when I walked a few shows in Serbia. I got scouted by Women Milano at the very beginning and pursued my career with them ever since.
WAO – Tell us a little bit about your first jobs as a Model…
Georgina – My first season was a very successful one. Of course at the time I did not know what hit me, and even took it for granted a little bit
I walked 60 shows, including Prada, Jil Sander, Versace, Dior, Ralph Lauren… It was all very exciting, the work, traveling, new friends. People often ask if it’s a tiring and difficult job, and I say it is, but those first few months when you are starting something new and exciting, those are the ones you’re always gonna remember. My first cover followed through, it was for Numéro magazine, with Greg Kadel. It’s still one of my favorite shots of me modeling.
WAO – Explain us how amazing your best day in fashion world was
Georgina – Closing Dior haute couture show in 2009 (related to SS 2011). I remember it was summer, in Paris of course, and there were so many emotions going on that I am bound to remember it forever I think. It was my first time closing a big show, so I felt a lot of responsibility, border lining with a huge amount of fear, mixed with pure joy that I am actually doing that. It took me forever to fall asleep the night before the show, but Dior can do that to a girl.
It all went well; I walked my beautiful 60 kg dress up and down the runway and celebrated afterwards.
WAO – How do you prepare for a casting?
Georgina – I try to look my best natural self. I chose my outfit so it represents me and my shape in the most beautiful way. Sometimes I do a little face massage if it’s early in the morning so I arrive as awake as possible. Most importantly, I remind myself that I am meeting actual people (not a brand or title in the company) and I try to give them a piece of my good energy during that little talk.
WAO – In what city is more difficult to achieve a job?
Georgina – It really depends on the market and how you see yourself. For me it’s probably Tokyo since I am very tall for their standards. But in western markets i would not say there are cities that are difficult for acquiring jobs.
WAO – What is your favourite designer?
Georgina – I love Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano and Giorgio Armani.
WAO – In another life… Would you like to be a model again or do you have another passions?
Georgina – I think one life will be enough for all my passions. I am a model, but I am also a philanthropist, an activist, a graduate of international relations. My newest interest is in digital marketing and I look forward to learning more in that field.
But please don’t let anybody tell you have to be only one thing! We are all so many wonderful things, that’s the beauty of life and choice
WAO – You have studied political science… Why?
Georgina – I was an idealistic 18 year old coming for a former communist, war disrupted country. I needed to know what the hell happened there. Studying helped, I enjoyed my student days a lot!
WAO – Define us in three words a fashion week as a model…
Georgina – Exciting, crazy, beautiful or just check out these hashtags and see for yourself: #nyfw #mfw #pfw
WAO – Do you have any charity projects in which you are involved?
Georgina – Until January this year I was involved with one charity foundation from Serbia in a nation wide campaign to raise awareness on importance of organ donation. Wo organized numerous lectures where doctors spoke about the prejudice people my have and about the importance of such program for one nation.
Another charity project that I am very fond of is Children Philharmonic from the Balkans. Foundation called Deca deci (meaning Children to children) gathered 60 amazing, talented children, age 6-14, from the Balkan region in a first children philharmonic orchestra. We are just getting started and we have great plans with them, maybe next time you will want to write a piece on them
WAO – Do you like Dubai? Have you been there for work?
Georgina – I do like Dubai. I visited once for a holiday, and once for a photo shoot. We were shooting a special issue for Vogue Italia in the Dubai Mall. It’s a fascinating place.
WAO – What do you think about Spain?
Georgina – Spain is one of my favorite countries in the world! I absolutely love Spain. I have been in Madrid, Barcelona, Andalucía region, and of course Ibiza. Spanish food is my favorite. I know a lot of Spanish people and they are all very real, authentic, original – I love that about them.
WAO – Tell us something about your experience in MBFWMadrid
Georgina – Madrid FW is such a special experience. It’s different than other FW cities because it’s very well organized for models.
All the fittings and shows are happening in one big space designed for similar activities, which makes it very pleasant for people working for several brands.
I have done already 4 fashion weeks in Madrid and I loved it every time. I got the know very well the hair and make up team, the casting team as well, so I feel almost at home when I am there. I would love to come back next season as well.
