Gerren Taylor

she was the start of the "cute black girl" trend. not edgy, ethnic, or startling... just cute.

anyone else notice that she spurred the curly fro trend.. so now all these black models.. liek emanuela depaola, so many others spor the huge almost fro'd corkscrews?

ehh emanuela seems to wear her hair straight more than anything but I see what youre talking about.

I do like Gerren, but i also agree she doesnt have that SPARK, but neither does people like Stam or the other cokehead. Her name i forget.

I did notice that. With some of the girls with ANTM etc.....It's funny how trends start......

i love love love gerren

maybe because im a black girl with an afrocentric look in the fashion industry and i like seeing us make it in the fashion industry but...

i think she is gorgeous and has become one of my beauty role models along with unconventional black beauties such as lauryn hill

to alot of you she is "cute" but to me she is pretty, exotic, and represents an organic kind of black aesthetic, maybe i love her look cause we have a similar look with a cocoa complexion, dollface, and curly afro, whats boring about that

and just because she doesnt have the common european looking face doesnt mean she doesnt have good structure to her face im tired of most of the black models that are considered fierce to be the ones that look "mixed" or "alien"

i do agree she is too young to start at such a frantic pace and some pics are too sexy but compared to alot of these young girls i think she has alot going for her

just cause she doesnt have that same look as the other teen models doesnt mean she isnt worthy

I like to see more black girls in the industry too but I just don't see a model when I look at Gerren. I mean if she wasn't..what 5'10 5'11 do you really think she would have been scouted? I think her height is pretty much all she has going for her. She seems like a nice girl but she doesn't really have the qualities of a model imo.

All I can see her doing is commercial work, she has great skin color and all, but that doesnt make her a great model.

If any of the models besides the exceptions didn't have the height.....would they be modeling???

and what exactly are the "qualities" of a model cause i see alot of diversity so what is the common denomenator here

Unique is relative

She is very average looking in a business where its better to be unique.

Most of the models.....even the top models are unique by the industries standards.....the photographers, magazine editors, designers etc.......let us know what type of girl is in fashion at any given moment......

Most of the girls would be considered average and some possibly below average outside of the industry, walking down the street.....so unique is relative......if Gerren shoots with top photograpers and starts to be on magazine covers etc......the industry would be saying that she's unique at this moment....she's the flavor of the month.......That's why they have those titles: "It Girl", Girl of the Moment, etc.....

Ethnically, Gerren is very unique.....she has her own look......but I feel all of us....whatever race, creed or color are unique and special in our own way.

And again.....the industry tells you what is unique to this industry at any given time.....who would have thought the "alien" look would have been so popular?

my point was imo height is all she has..i don't find her attractive in a model sense at all (again that's just my opinion). I don't think she has a future in the industry because she's not versatile enough. She was the "it" girl for a while ..I'm not exactly sure why..I think her age had something to do with it. Anywho, on top of everything she doesn't photograph amazingly:innocent: it's just a combination of things. No offense to people who like her.

No offense taken....which models do you think photograph amazingly?

What I mean is that she looks like your average 14 or so year old. And like I said, she has a nice skin tone and all, but she is too average. And in photographs she doesnt have the it factor. If I saw her in a magazine, I would just keep looking through the magazine and not even do a double take. When there is a good, usually unique model I have to take a second look.

Well I think Jessica Miller is probably one of the best models ever..I mean she is probably the most photogenic model I've ever seen. It's not like she's the most beautiful person in the world or anything but the girl can model. I also like carolyn murphy, katja shchekina and alek wek. I'm really not that picky but I like the "it" factor as makeupjunkie said. When I look at Gerrens pictures I see one main expression over and over. I think in this business you have to be very photogenic or captivatingly beautiful and Gerren isn't really either of those (imo). When I saw first saw the marc by marc photo in vogue I honestly didn't think she was a model..I thought maybe she was an actress or something:huh: .
