Giles Deacon S/S 11 London

It looks like all the super trendy items from Forever 21 threw up all over the collection. :(

I don't understand what just happened there. There's nothing that holds the collection together. Ugh that black floral print is too dominant. Maybe I'm just saying that because I don't like it very much, teehee.

that bikini outfit that Alessandra Ambrosio is wearing, the positioning of the print has the palm tree sticking right out of her crotch. at first i was wondering what that speck was on the smaller pics, but when I saw the HQ pics i was like

one wonders what giles will cook up for the house of emanuel ungaro. it appears that the frilliness and the girliness from emanuel ungaro informed this collection just a bit and even the shapes tended a little softer than usual. with that said, all of the criticism about the ambivalence in this collection really holds true. it's like two distinct collections presented at once. one colorful and girly and fun. one dark and serious and gothic. i wish he showed us one or the other.

What about the contrast thing we we're talking about earlier Mike?

This is way cool. I often feel Giles occupies similar territory to Marc Jacobs but delivers with more edge. You can see elements of the last two Louis Vuitton collections here but viewed through a prism somewhere akin to Henry Holland and Luella but at a level neither can/could reach. A fabulous kitschy mad melange.

Throw in a little of AW10/11 Meadham Kirschoff; 70's referenced with just the right amount of tongue in cheek; and wonderfully inclusive casting that neither Westwood nor Prada last season got anywhere near and Giles is really really on the money.

So Katie Grand was involved someone said? Yes, I can see that. The show feels like a ready to go editorial. A crazy and very cool one in which you might cast not a fashion model but an out there drag queen or p*rn star or yes, maybe even Kerry Katona. It's a London thing.

I suspect this is destined for my top 10.

yes, but he didn't incorporate the two items. they literally stood apart as separate looks in this collection. i would love for him to have found a creative way to mash up these two influences, but he did not.
