I didn't find a thread dedicated just to girlshop.com.. so i figured I'd start one..

http://www.girlshop.com

Post stuff from girlshop that you have either bought... or that you like and plan on buying... or even dislike...

I'll start...

I love the shape and "idea" of this bag... but overall the ribbons and the handle seem too much... I have to admit.. I wanted to buy it for the first 5 minutes of looking at it.. then thought.. naah.

I also like this dress.. I dunno... something about it... maybe it's the green.. I dunno

Anyone else?

i kinda like the bag you posted, luna..
i love the bulga bag, the leather looks gorg and i love the color (both brown and bluegreen). the only thing thats preventing me from getting it is its size.
its around 17" by 12" and its going to look gigantic on me. im not very tall.

about girlshop in general, they can be either a hit or miss.
sometimes the stuff is awesome, sometimes a lot of stuff looks cheap/bad quality/weird design.
i think their jewerly boutiques are always great though:flower:

mmm pretty, but you never really know, its just a big online mall... you can never see the quality for yourself. i'm always a bit hesitant about that kinda thing.

Does anyone have any promotional codes/coupons/discounts for Girlshop.com?

I never shopped there before. Are they pretty good? Thanks. =)

Personally, I've had really good luck with girlshop. I bought an Edward An dress and some tops - all very good quality stuff in my opinion. As far as coupons are concerned, I don't know. Although, if you sign up for their email list they'll give you a heads up on promotions, free shipping, etc.

Haha, I actually have that bag Luna in blue! Its a great throw around bag and the ribbons aren't bad at all, love it actually...

Oh how fun!! I can contribute to this one. I got these a couple of months ago. My earrings are in gold. Love them all!

I have a lot of clothes from girlshop, my favorite piece is a pencil skirt by Harvey and its pink and white and red (tweed) with hearts where the slits begin in the back! :bounce:

Oh!! I'm so jealous  !! I wanted that skirt in leopard, but they sold out...

Congrats for you, though!! Adorable!

i do like the kirsten lee wedges, but i don't think that i would spend a hundred to two hundred dollars for them.

I just got the earrings MK has from them today. I loooooooooove them... they are so pretty & light weight too.

Did anyone else know that Girlshop is/was going out of business?

I haven't seen any mention of this elsewhere on tfs, but maybe I missed it? Anyway, there was a WWD article about it on April 18. I don't subscribe to WWD, but here's some info I found on a couple of blogs:

WWD reports that online boutique pioneer Girlshop.com is shutting down operations after almost a decade in business. The Fashion Informer quotes Girlshop owner Laura Eisman as saying, “All our staff was let go over a month ago. We’re basically run out of business by all the online competition.” Word is that Eisman has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. There is nothing on the Girlshop site to indicate this but it appears that operations have shuttered for good. A comment on this blog notes that “I have been trying to reach them for a month. Their phone numbers are all disconnected and no one will respond to my emails.” Racked reports that the online store stopped accepting orders two weeks ago but that the brick and mortar store in the Meatpacking District is still open with a liquidation sale scheduled for this Thursday, April 19 running through Sunday, April 22.

In breaking fashion news dear to my heart (full disclosure: I started my career at the site), online boutique innovators Girlshop are packing their bags and closing up shop. A little bird told me that owner Laura Eisman has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. No word yet on whether the Meatpacking District store will close too...

UPDATE: Yes, the Meatpacking District store WILL indeed close. In fact, check out New York Magazine's sale listing here. On a side note, WWD has noted that Girlshop.com is actually NOT in bankruptcy. Instead, Eisman hopes to pay off creditors the majority of the debt that the store owes. Good news for the many small designers that the retailer supported!

COMMENT: I just stumbled across your news after I did a google search on girlshop.com bankrupt. I have been trying to reach them for a month. Their phone numbers are all disconnected and no one will respond to my emails. They owe me a credit and I have been so frustrated. Why wouldn't they post something on their website. It is still up and running and I don't think that's very professional. I was a long time customer and am very upset at the way they have handled this.

Girlshop.com will reportedly close its virtual doors after nearly a decade in business. The shop's literal doors at the store in the Meatpacking District will follow suit on Sunday. This is sad news for fashionistas who came to love the boutique whose claim to fame was featuring clothing and accessories by small, emerging designers. What set Girlshop.com apart from other online retailers was its magazine-like look, thanks to founder and graphic designer, Laura Eisman.
"When we launched, the reason we were successful was, we offered unique products and we started this trend for emerging fashion," says Eisman. "Now that it's everywhere, it's made us less unique.
New Yorkers can take advantage of the liquidation sale from Thursday through Sunday at the Meatpacking District store at 819 Washington Street near Gansevoort Street.

This is all news to me; I was just browsing the site earlier today, ogling a bag that I was hoping to buy. To the casual observer (i.e., me), everything looked normal, although I did find it odd that the new inventory update list on the left hand side hadn't been updated since February. I also recognized that their featured selections, entitled "Gotta Have It Now!", were the same from an Girlshop email I received a couple of months ago. I didn't think too much of these things, though...but now it all makes sense.

Yeah I read that in WWD a few weeks ago. It's so sad, I have been visiting the site weekly since they opened!

oh that's strange.. you would thing that they would post some sort of message on the site...

i had no idea...

Yeah...it's been almost a month since the went out of business...how hard would it be to take the site down or post a message?

As of right now, it looks like you can still make purchases online!
