Girlshop.com

does this mean that girlshop is not going to support independent designers?

hmm.. i wonder what that means in the long run...???

will net-a-porter be changing or expanding in any way to reflect what girlshop has done in the past?

not sure.
i know that netaporter own a couple of domains and the more they own they more they monopolize the online retail business.. so who knows..

NAP was the last company that I would have expected to acquire girlshop. I used to shop on girlshop quite a bit so it will be interesting to see what NAP does with the company. I hope that they still give the emerging designers a chance...

I'm guessing you're right leyla...
it's like any other big retailer that puts the little guy out of business and buys them out...

I doubt NAP will try to cater to the independent designer aspect that girlshop had... it doesn't really fit with their sleek image imo

weird. why do i feel that nap actually buys girlshop's customer info instead of girlshop?

It was this approach that led the company (NAP) to acquire 100,000 new customer names from Girlshop after the Internet pioneer closed last month. "Girlshop departed from other online fashion sites by having a point of view," Massenet explained. "I thought its customer base would respond to our positioning. We were also keen to tap into the New York and U.S.-centric customer base."

It was not the first such acquisition for Net-a-porter, which also has snapped up customer lists from Fashion.com in the U.K. and Language, a fashion-forward NoLIta boutique that closed several years ago

oh language! I remember them! But what are they doing with these domains?! I think nap actually does support a lot of smaller independent designers. I see a lot of designers there that aren't carried in big UK department stores so....we'll see. It's interesting.

thanks twin star... very informative...

definitely makes sense from a business point of view..
girlshop if gone but NAP wants to scoop up their customers
very smart..

too bad for girlshop but at least they get some money even though they're out of business..

Ya know, I knew something was up. I think a lot of the other online shops put them outta business, activeendeavors.com and shopbop.com for the mostpart, IMO
