Givenchy F/W 2018.19 by Steven Meisel

It's basic as hell. No life, no energy.
If anyone but Saint Meisel had shot this, everyone here would be ripping it apart.:rolleye::lol:

Dior copied Gucci. Now Givenchy copied YSL. It's a never ending circle.

''Nada se cria, tudo se copia.''

Her Givenchy seems so... irrelevant. Like, literally who are these people?

looks like a sequel to the main ed of Vogue Italia june 2009, the one with Meghan on the cover! Love it

I don’t see any relevance of this campaign from what she is showing at the runway, rtw or haute couture.
And the bringing back of the logo just doesn’t feel right for some reasons I can’t pinpoint.
Is it losing lustre or what? The whole concept just doesn’t feel modern or exciting.

It feels very dated, from the lighting to the concept to the layout. I just don't understand her point of view. I guess the saving grace is that were it in colour it would look a bit like Asos, so the b/w is giving it that tiny hint of luxury.

Better than Riccardo’s Campaigns for sure.

This is reminiscent to "All Tomorrow's Parties" the shoot Meisel did in 2009.

I need to see more to really get a feel of it to determine whether I like it or not. Seeing Sohyun Jung does peak my interest though.

I like the close up shots. I'm always drawn to a compelling close cropped shot...it's gone out of fashion, with everyone in favor of dull, lifeless full body shots, instead. But a tight crop like this always reads as more dynamic, more glamorous and reads more "fashion" to me. It's like classic Tom Ford Gucci advertising. But I get that you don't see the clothes in full, so the suits likely don't love it.

Which leads me to the full image of the nightclub moment...just doesn't do anything for me. Oh well. Should have just stuck with the portraits.

That's my gripe with it as well....the vast disconnect. Clare's designs are not for me. Let me be frank, I find it basic and lacking in any form of excitement. I understand it's purpose in the fashion landscape though. So to use this YSL-lite direct to glog her goods feel downright disingenuous.

Looks like a mix between Terry Richardson and Mario Testino..not a good look for Meisel.

I don’t like it. It’s like a B&W version of Prada Fall 2010, only messier and less interesting. The composition and the dancing is very similar. I can’t believe they didn’t show that gorgeous lamé dress in color, what a shame. The closeups on the teasers are really good. It didn’t translate well to full body. It’s not memorable and we’ll likely forget about it once the season is over.

Funny that people say it doesn't look like Meisel; definitely a follow-up to the June 2009 editorial with Meghan, Nimue etc. I do like the energy though, and it's nice to see Veronika Kunz get her shot with SM, she's really growing on me and is clearly Clare's muse at the moment. Not my favourite type of Meisel imagery, but it's good so far.

Interested to see the rest

the campaing is very Testino

True; Meisel actually did many fashion and personal pics like these. Anyways, there were more pics on Meisel's IG a few days ago and they're amazing. I don't see how they're connected to Clare's vision though.

Alexander Wang basically did the same campaign for SS17 and it felt a lot more genuine and believable. I wonder if Clare has ever been to a "party at a secret address".

What does it mean that Meisel "Documented" this instead of photographing? Wasn't it directed by him?

Edit: Her vision is so unclear; nothing makes sense.

I doubt it! Clare is the epitome of blancmange.

M&M really ruined these nightlife type edits for me. The novelty wore off to be honest.

I like the campaign a lot but i feel like the campaign has almost too puch personality compared to the actual aesthetic of Clare.

I wish they just went for white background, models posing instead of those very moody campaigns that just highlight the lack of personality of her Givenchy.
Meisel did a good job with this one.
