Givenchy F/W 2019.20 Paris

Left me cold...Givenchy on ice. As always.

And the 3 first looks reminded me of Prada...I don´t know why, but I thought about Prada when I saw them (although the sleeve construction from the first coat reminds me of Comme 2-D 2012 collection).

Apart from the tuxedo with the glittery lapel, this is terrible. One of the worst collection of the season.
What’s her plan?
Why Couture clients can enjoy something modern and slick and the « mass » has to get the dated, ugly and dusty stuff?

So many questions, so many questionable looks...

I really like the tailoring here, it's sharp and graphic as always with Clare. The menswear looks are really nice, too. I just don't really get the part with pleated florals, the silhouettes are somehow wrong to me and I hate those twisted hems. Those puffers did nothing to me, too. But as a whole it's not that bad, I mean this season we've seen worse collections than this one. If she had kept it clean and graphic, just like her couture or her s/s 19 collection, it would be much more interesting.

Markle. Meghan Markle.

There was just enough polished American frump to inject a strange, artificial freshness into the collection.

I thought the tip of the hat to McQueen's legendary tailoring (and shoulders and sleeves and strangeness, oh my) was a good choice as well as those pressed floral, pleated slim dresses in shades of Annabel's powder room. This was a lesson on how to speak french with a British accent and she just about pulled it off; grown up clothes for those with a (waning?) penchant for streetwear and its swagger.

The checkered looks and the look with the white blouse with silk tie and black pencil skirt look like bad copies of Stefano Pilati’s YSL.

No doubt people will flock to the clothes because it’s not too bad... and it’s by a female designer.

I honestly admit....I absolutely love this collection. To me...THIS....this is the epitome of Parisian chic!!

In regards to the tailoring of the shoulders....I'm seeing very early Martin Margiela. His infamous cigarette-sleeves. I also
Iove the self-belts around the waistline. Regardless of shape or size...it gives a flattering , custom fit.

The collection is considerably sophisticated....tasteful....and mature. There's nothing gimmicky, here. The use of logos is here....but it's very subtle. Not very.....in-your-face.

The silhouette.....is lean and trim in regards to the suiting...but not unbearably tight. Very clean...not very busy...minimal.

The dresses are actually prettty...and again...tasteful. Thankfully...the dresses are not all about cleavage on display. Sexy, but restrained. Although...there are a few too many of them. A bit redundant.

The pieces that I'm not very fond of?? One example.....is the peach color dress. It looks like a Hefty-Bag creamsicle....and the fabric choice, is God-awful.

I'm also not entirely fond of the snake-skin, platform shoes.

Overall...the collection looks considerably modern

I'm also thankful that Riccardo Tischi made an exit from Givenchy.

His version of Givenchy was too vulgar.....to harsh...too mean...and a bit to evil for personal taste.

This collection is refined elegance. Something Riccardo never put forth. Images and pictures of Rottweiler's.....sharks teeth....something resembling the Virgin Mary?? No thanks...I'm all-set.

The collection looks like it's for....a mature audience.

It's not a collection for 20-somethings. It's a bit more adult.

Many of the dresses......are very feminine, and classy.....not very provocative or sl*tty. That realm of women's-wear belongs to Donatella Versace.

Bravo!!

Is her leather goods team getting inspiration from the insta-famous brand Danse lente? because the bags from this collection is severely parallel to Danse Lente's.

The RTW isn’t very good but the shoes and bags are absolutely horrendous and entirely undesirable. I don’t understand at all who the Givenchy woman is or who buys this?

Suzanne Koller can be a great stylist but her work looks very dated here..

Riccardo was much more than those commercial gimmicks.
Clare in her lifetime will never achieve the level of beauty and perfection Riccardo often achieved in his tenure!
His first 2 couture collections were faultless, his FW07 RTW, his Couture FW08, all his 2009 & 2010 collections, his SS12, his Japanese collection...etc. And his fabulous FW14 collection.

I had to defend Riccardo. Taste is subjective but when he want, he create magic!
