Givenchy F/W 2021.22 Paris

We should call Lisbeth Salander to see if she still interested in fashion....

I mean... Best presentation ever, love the energy, its just there is very little design and just a LOT of styling. Besides some dresses, you can make a look like this for you if you spend a night in a mall.

This collection looks like something Kanye West would "design". A great part of it reminded me of Mcqueen by Burton, especially fur and leather pieces. I could also see Helmut Lang references. The presentation was amazing but that's not a surprise.

I don't think he is really interested in designing clothes. He just wants to be a showman. Nothing going on here besides having the moment of a presentation

It looks so... Alexander Wang. Very dated NYFW idea of "edgy streetwear". It just doesn't feel elevated enough for Paris, let alone Givenchy. Those exposed breast looks were uncomfortable, tacky and demeaning.

And there are obvious copies all around, even the presentation is straight from Saint Laurent and Balenciaga.

the presentation was great and there are a lot of cool pieces/ outfits.
he’s on a good path I believe and he’s gonna put Givenchy on the radar again.

Ehhhh. I don't know, it feels VERY try-hard and dated. Like Hedi Slimane try-hard.

The phantom of the opera style opening on top of all the scaffolding was pretty funny though.

GIVENCHYPE

It's could be an Ambush, Alyx Studios, or Alexander Wang collection and that scared me. It's lacking any kind of personal identity. Does he even go to the archive and look at the clothes Monsieur Givenchy designed. He is only interested in McQueen and Tisci because they are "cooler". I'm scared now for his Haute Couture.

I'm not surprised tho. He is doing exactly what he was hired to do. Turn this house into another Balenciaga, so LVMH can finally reach that 2 billion goals with Givenchy. Thank God we still have Loewe.

Somewhere in the UK, Julien Macdonald is having a relief sigh.

It literally looks like Alexander Wang! Especially the fur boxing gloves and the knitted balaclavas with a hole on the back gave me a strong throwback to the FW13 collection. Even the presentation was similar. Ironically, I think Williams for Givenchy will be as forgotten as Wang for Balenciaga. Just another 'filler' tenure. It's also interesting that the PR people are not able to generate real hype for those clothes.

As a whole, this collection is just wrong. It's vulgar without any point behind it. Matthew tried to be edgy, but actually it's alienating their customer base from the past. What's even worse, Williams has literally zero skills when it comes to tailoring, it feels wrong in terms of proportions and execution. And I don't want to comment on the fake Armadillo boots because it's just an abomination. But should we expect more from a guy who said that staying at Givenchy for years would be a success in his opinion?

Well the styling was excessive as usual and those women’s shoes were hideous. However I must admit, that was one of the coolest presentations I’ve seen in a long time so bravo for that.

why are there no images yet? I liked the red pieces at the end but they were soooo riccardo tisci.

Alexander wang as well...all of it.

That’s a lot of products and a lot take all at once...
I think the goal here is to cover all the categories and to create « potent » products. While I think there’s something in there that can attract a men’s customer back (outerwear, streetwear), à genderless millennials crowd, I think the statement or the proposition is not directional enough to drive sales in a strong way (while I think his Givenchy has the potential to be more successful than Clare’s ).

While the menswear market is growing fast, it’s still womenswear that drive sales. There’s no reall hype for his clothes and the proposition, while commercial is also quite banal. We can go to YSL for all black silhouettes!

The collection looks indeed like an Alexander Wang collection with the same lack of sophistication in the clothes.

Now, marketing team: DO YOUR JOB!

im sry the nipple bra doesnt belong here. very very off putting

Nice presentation but it cuts too fast between looks! Jughead beanies and awful boots aside...It's really not as bad as I feared, a product parade full of silly trinkets but the furs (that remind me of Ford's last Gucci show) at least add some character to the line-up. The evening gown with the ropes and netting is cute.

For me Fendi remains the blunder of the season by a wide margin...

There are large stretches of this show (particularly the first half) where you could've told me this was Philipp Plein and I probably would've believed you. But whereas there's some sort of tongue-in-cheek quality to Plein's grotesquely OTT and bad taste offerings, there's zero sense of humor to this disaster. All of that voluminous fur and that sheeny black leather and the exaggerated knits and the bare breasts...it's so unappealing and tacky, so desperate. It makes Hedi's output at Celine look downright refined and fresh in comparison.
