Givenchy Haute Couture FW0506 Paris

^eightyeightkeys , those are some gorgeous pics!!! wow!!! i dont really think "givenchy" when i see it, but these designs are so beautifully dark... i want to see that dress *behind* the model in the first pic post right above... looks like lots of braids and knots... riccardo is amazing~ good for him!

Hmm, it is quite nice overall but I must admit I was expecting better.....and I hate that white coat .....

the white fur coat may be my less fave of all pics posted :ninja:

When I saw the first pictures I thought I'll never get Haute Couture, I'll have to put up with it. But after seeing the new pics that thought is completely gone. Some of the gothic romantic gowns are so gorgeous, especially the ones that are not too much covered with frills. He's allowed to stay! :D

I don't want to know how many cats and rabbits are processed in it  Hate fur.

A few more pics.

Awfully sorry for muddying the waters , I must be losing my never less than tenuous touch .

Still , I liked a fair amount of what Lee McQueen did for Givenchy , Utterly hated what the Welsh Versace , Macdonald did with it , but absolutely rejoice in what Riccardo Tisci has done in such a short time . He's brought back the Hubert chic and rejuvenated it with some Italian pzazz , the result being utterly captivating .
LVMH is to be congratulated in saving a distinctive couture house and not going for a ' name ' designer , with his own axe to grind , the house's reputation being of lesser consequence to him .

Gucci have done this with Yves Saint Laurent , and captured a man who has respect for the past as well as a true vision for the future - it's hands together for Stefano Pilati and for Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy , who've brought class back where it should be .

its all very lovely. well done Mr tisci.

I read an article recently which was an interview with Hubert and he said how hurt he has been by Galliano/McQueen/MaDonald and what they have done to Givenchy. He said Mcqueen had been really rude and unpleasant about him.

very interesting, i love the dramatic vibe that i expected from him and yet it's not too blown up. there are a few things that i'm not too fond of, the shining leather (?) skirt for example, but over all i think it's ravishing.
also it stands out among the other haute couture shows so far...

thanks for thread and pictures and information, everyone!:flower:

yes anna I am not so keen on the shiny leather (or the white fur for that matter) - I like the simpler pieces best and the colours.

I love the simpler pieces. But I hate that sort of sausage look he's gotten with some of the fur, it looks like a dog who hasnt been groomed in a while.

i like some of the looks but some just look weird lie the 2nd look posted. preffered the previous givenchy couture collections

thumbs up for mr tisci, he did a good job, also considering this was his first couture collection. i see a lot of sophisticated pieces in the collection, very beautiful!
i agree with kit - he really brought class back.....

Exactly. He has done a great job for a first time couturier. It's nothing that I am absolutely wild about, but I am sure he will grow in couture and will make it his own.

McQueen had been really rude and unpleasant with everybody at Givenchy and LVMH. He's famous to be an arrogant middleclass assh..e without education.
i remember to read an interview of the givenchy's Haute Couture team about McQueen, it said something like "Mcqueen? he's not able to say a simple word like "bonjour".:innocent:

As aforementioned, I despise fur, but that white coat is gorgeous.

This is a stunning collection in my opinion. It's couture that I can identify with and I think in one sense, if couture has any hope of lasting, it needs to start making people like me, people who might be clients in the future, identify with what it stands for and start to covet it now. Not just aim for the older already established clientele.

Not liking the shiny leather either but that white coat is :woot:! Makes me think "snow queen". I hope it's not real fur? Really liking the head ornaments too. Haven't been paying much attention to Givenchy, but I think this designer might change that.

talent or no talent, people who show no respect for others are not worthy of respect.
