I have read that she regretted and regretted marrying Rainier, that her last 10 years were very sad. Even as a little kid, I thought it odd that a woman who had it all, who was at the top her game would kiss it goodbye and marry a prince and lead a life that would be defined by duty and she would never be able to really have her own life. I cannot imagine doing that and it is doubly weird to me that Grace did not really love Rainier. She said she wanted a man who would not be "Mr. Grace Kelly", but she could have married say, Aristotle Onassis or some other rich man and led an independent life.

It must have been hard for Grace to see a career path beyond movies. I guess "princess" seemed like a step up from actress. Too bad it wasn't. The real royalty became American movie stars, but she couldn't have forseen that.

Ari, no, she could have married a nice rich guy her own age. Mind you that didn't work out for Liz Taylor. maybe accent on nice.
