Window and Grace Kelly
Got a chance to watch Alfred Hitchcock “Rear Window” last night. I haven’t seen this movie in a while, but a couple of weeks ago my DVR box recorded it, and so finally I've managed to watch it. After 60 years or so since it has been made, the original suspense is mostly gone, but it’s awfully interesting to watch the everyday life in those times, or at least the cinematic version of it. It feels somehow voyeuristic, especially that the plot itself is basically built around peeping.
Have you ever noticed how each generation of people looks younger than their ancestors, at the same age? Just check out old photographs. In the 1950’s people at the ripe age of 30 already looked mature. Watching the "Rear Window" reminded me of that. With the exception, of course, of Grace Kelly. Young, beautiful, elegant, and classy – she looks as if she has been born into some European royal family. Talk about genetics.
Actually, the movie where she looks her best is “To Catch A Thief”. It is a bit tedious, but the photography is superb, and Grace Kelly’s character has sophistication with a touch of arrogance that suits so well both her beauty and her movie persona, as invented by Alfred Hitchcock.
The last movie with Grace Kelly was "High Society". I think I haven't seen it, might be a good idea
